[Disco/House] Cazzette – Genius (Prinston Remix)

Cazzette
Genius (Prinston Remix)

As the atmospheric backdrop for this writer has turned a little cold, dreary and rainy in Denver, it was only fitting to counteract Mother Nature with some upbeat, sunny nu-disco. Filling that space is an official remix from enigmatic Swedish producer Prinston, who’s touched up Cazzette’s “Genius” with enough funk, soul, disco and classic house to have us dancing all the way through the impending weekend. Prinston riffs on Cazzette’s boisterous original by pulling its rolling cadence back to a breezy stride and instilling a bevy of Nile Rodgers tipping guitar licks to appeal to your funky side in the process. Previously, the mysterious Swede has already remixed Cazzette and his single “Sleepless”, but also wields credits on revisions of Avicii’s “Waiting For Love” and Maroon 5’s “Sugar”. With under 200 Soundcloud followers, 100 Facebook fans and a polished sound rivaling any of today’s most notable producers, Prinston is a bona fide find in today’s climate of music dispersion… which you might’ve heard we have something of an ear for. Be on the lookout for Prinston’s debut EP, due out in 2016, and in the mean time, sit back and get loose with his remix of “Genius” above.

[House] Pat Lok – Your Lips ft. DiRTY RADiO

Pat Lok
Your Lips ft. DiRTY RADiO

It’s always a treat when two of our favorite entities come together for a warranted collaboration, and we’ve gleefully gotten to add another groover to that list on this fine Monday. TMN mainstay Pat Lok, who most recently stopped by our pages with his remix of The Knocks’ viral single “Classic”, has added another soulful house gem to his carefully crafted catalog by enlisting the vocal duties of fellow TMN regulars,  Canadian indie-R&B slingers DiRTY RADiO to create “Your Lips”. “Your Lips” is equally suited as a club-ready track or casual listener, pairing pulsating deep-disco vibes to DiRTY RADiO’s sensual vocal track, which results in a silky smooth melody that beckons its listeners to the dance floor. This one’s already garnered support from BBC Radio 1Xtra as well as artist support from the likes of Tensnake, Moon Boots, Goldroom, and more; solidifying Pat Lok’s staying power in the process. Stream “Your Lips” above and let’s start dancing away this Monday afternoon.

[House] Jason Burns – Everything feat. Cybil [TMN Premiere]

Jason Burns Feat. Cybil
Everything

Portland’s Jason Burns has been creating quite the ripple effect with his music as of late. The adept dance producer always carries with him a gracefully emotive touch to a unique blend of club and house music, and luckily for us to start our week, we’ve got his latest single before anyone else: “Everything” featuring the honeyed vocals of London based singer/songwriter Cybil. “Everything” is a smooth and suffuse blend of the UK club sound etched with little pieces of jackin’ garage, soulful deep corners, late 80’s house soul and even a smidgen of classic dubstep wobble on its rolling hook that quite simply has us begging for more. Needless to say, we’re quite consumed with Jason Burns more club-directed side.

With past releases already on sought after institutions like Nurvous, Anabatic and RAM; Burns has once again teamed up with one of our absolute favorite dance-only imprints: tastemaking cult U.K. label Love & Other Records to drop his latest tune on us, which has only supplemented our collective excitement. Already with past support from the likes of Hannah Wants, Skream & Subsoul “Everything” looks to continue on Burns’ viral trajectory and will see official release on September 25th through Traxsource and all other retailers on October 9th. Until then though, TMN is the place to be for Jason Burns & Cybil’s collaboration “Everything”. Stream above.

[Indie/Synth-Pop] Favored Nations – I Can See You

Favored Nations
I Can See You

Despite their brief catalog, electronic supergroup Favored Nations -whom consists of the collective talents of singer Morgan Phalen (former frontman of Diamond Nights and featured vocalist on Justice’s last LP Audio, Video Disco), DJ/Producer James Curd (DFA, Exploited), and Surahn “Sid” Sidhu (touring guitarist for Empire of the Sun with writing credits for the likes of Usher and Kimbra)- has already carved out quite the eclectic and faithful following. Whether you came into contact with them on hyper-addictive single “The Setup” (which served as the best closing tune any video game has ever seen on GTA V), their most recent single “Always”, which we absolutely loved, or are just hearing them for the first time; Favored Nations’ sonic appeal enlightens pretty much every level of listener.

The latest single to be released in anticipation of their debut LP, The Great Unknown, which itself will see release worldwide on October 2nd via Antler Records and the etcetc Music collective, “I Can See You”, begins simply enough with a four-note synth backdrop giving way to one of Morgan Phalen’s most purposeful and directed refrains we’ve heard yet. But, “I Can See You” follows a steady aural progression, carefully layering bits of hollow kick-drum, plucky guitar and a heaping dose of pop-soul. Favored Nations does an excellent job of transfixing its listener, when perfectly, in the middle of Curd’s lushly layered synth-pop structuring lies a compressed yet stylistically emotive electric guitar respite from Sidhu which brilliantly wraps up Favored Nations buoyant tune.

We could keep gushing for at least another 200 words, however, its time to sit back and let “I Can See You” do the rest of our talking.

[Electro-Pop/Dance] Gilligan Moss – Stasis

Gilligan Moss
Stasis

For years now, and largely on the low, Chicago native Gilligan Moss has been producing left-field house music and elegantly off-kilter electronic pop. Much to our chagrin, this is unfortunately our first post covering the now New York based producer, but in reality Moss’ latest EP, Ceremonial, is his official debut. The vibrantly technicolor extended-play, which dropped just a few weeks back on the independently-minded London imprint AMF Records, touches its wings down on a number of aural aesthetics, but it was the EP’s closing tune, “Stasis” which came across as the perfect Hump Day prescription.

Hopping out of the gates with a rolling arpeggiated synth, clicky percussion and a light dose of grand piano, “Stasis” chases down a synth-pop prognosis and smashes it to bits with hints of a sensible psych influence and club-first house foundation. Gilligan Moss treats his vocal just as craftily as well, cutting and looping effortlessly through hazy and delicate incantations that sound somewhere between Sean Ryder‘s most indulgent bellows and the Macintosh computer SimpleText application used on OK Computer’s “Fitter Happier”.  Just beautiful stuff to our Ninja ears really. For a real taste of Moss’ range, don’t skip on the rest of Ceremonial either, to get a much clearer grasp as to why mainstream source’s like NME nabbed the burgeoning producer in an August edition of “Radar New Act Of The Week”. Let’s start unwinding our Wednesday with a little Gilligan Moss.
