Animal Music – We Stay Vacant [TMN PREMIERE]

ANiMAL-MUSiC
We Stay Vacant

As the world continues its decades-long infatuation with electronic dance music, fans are continually seeing it grow and evolve, bringing new ideas and unbridled creativity. Today’s a perfect example of that, as we bring you a look at London/Cambridge four-piece drum and bass outfit Animal Music.

Dropping today, “We stay Vacant” is a first glimpse at this group’s original work. With obvious influences of Netsky, Wilkinson, Chase & Status, and other notable drum and bass legends, Animal Music also sites songwriters like Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, and Bon Iver as inspiration, as well.

“We Stay Vacant” showcases the combination of the two worlds, fusing the fast-paced world of booming basslines, energetic percussion, and supercharged melodies with articulate songwriting abilities. Lead singer Tom Sutcliffe provides vocals on the track, bringing a song with a true message. And, while dance tracks have boasted amazing vocals for years to come, Animal Music has woven it into every aspect of their art. Not only will you hear Sutcliffe on their tracks, but he’ll be bringing those vocals live to each and every live performance.

We’ve been forging our sound in the studio and playing shows endlessly for the last two years without putting anything out. It’s like we’ve stolen a plane and been flying on fumes. Now we need to fill the tank. Obviously it will be incredible to go and play the four corners of the planet, taking the music to everyone so they can see and hear it for themselves. – Pete Pocket

This is just a taste of what’s to come from this inventive act. Make sure to follow them on facebook to get updates on new music, tour info, and general shenanigans.

Ultra Music Festival 2015 – Must See Acts [TMN EDITORS’ PICKS]

ultra-music-festival-2015

We’re less than a day away from Ultra Music Festival kicking into full swing, we thought it’d be the perfect time to throw a wrench in your perfectly laid out plans. As we do every year, our team of ninjas have hand-selected a few of their must-see acts, giving you an even bigger scheduling nightmare than you already had before.

With that in mind, we strongly suggest catching even a small portion of sets from these artists below, as they’ve come to be some of the most impressive we’ve caught over the past few years.

Matthew Bloss

DIXON

Dixon
Friday, Resistance Stage, Presented by Link Miami Rebels, 9:00 PM

After nabbing Resident Advisor’s #1 DJ of 2014, Steffen Berkhahn has seen his ‘Dixon‘ project near the top of every house & techno head’s ‘Must-See’ list. Though his signature style has undeniably morphed over the years, he’s stayed remarkably independent and adventurous, and he’s fiercely loyal to his label’s sound no matter how large the stage. For those in need of a massive set not aimed at the ‘EDM’ crowds, ABSOLUTELY do not miss Dixon’s slot.

’dixon – in our wilderness’

Goldroom

Goldroom

Sunday, Ultra Worldwide, 5:00 PM

The king of tempered down, breeze-along diso melodies, Goldroom hasn’t forgotten the platform which put him on the tip of so many tongues: the DJ booth. Josh Legg’s DJ sets still function as a vital part of the Goldroom experience even after expanding to a live four-piece. Everyone needs a chilled out hour or two during UMF’s absurd three days. Make it with Goldroom.

’Goldroom – Till Sunrise’

röyksopp

Royksopp

Friday, Live Stage, 11:00 PM

Potentially the Norwegian duo’s last ever run on the festival circuit after announcing an end to albums for their timeless dance-pop project, culminating with an incredible 2014 two-hour opus, fittingly titled The Inevitable End. Just the premise of not having them around in the near future is enough to make us label this as one of our ‘Must-See’ performances of the weekend.

[Playlist] TomorrowWorld Announces 2015 Musical Curators

It’s hard to even fathom any festivals beyond SXSW and WMC right now, but with TommorrowWorld’s recent announcement, we’ll gladly take a break from the impending madness to share the news.

Just last week, the promoters of TomorrowWorld shared some insight on what’s in store for the festival’s third year. While we’re still on our toes for the first phase of lineup to be announced, TomorrowWorld has announced their 2015 musical partners that will be curating the festival’s various stages.

From Hardwell’s Revealed stage, to the Hospital Records stage, to a Future Classic stage, planning your show schedule is going to be a difficult task. Every genre of dance music will be represented to some degree at the fairytale-themed festival, and these curators are a true statement to the caliber of talent that TomorrowWorld is known for. In addition to the artist curated stages, themed stages will also be present as the festival brings back It’s a Trap! and Mythical Frames while also introducing two new themed stages – a Future House stage and the L!ve stage.

Last but not least, for the .0001% of you that have a legitimate conflict with this year’s festival, TomorrowWorld is not planning on leaving anytime soon. As of last week, the Chattahoochee Hills City Council officially extended the festival’s land usage permit for TomorrowWorld in 2025. It seems the people of Georgia want to keep the mystical event around for their kids to experience as well.

In celebration of this curator announcement, we’ve pulled together playlists from them all. While we can’t guarantee that any of the acts from these will make the cut, they should give you a strong indication of what to expect.

[DnB] Steven Lee vs Goldie – SuperHero feat Macy Gray (Goldie Remix)

Steven Lee vs Goldie
SuperHero feat Macy Gray (Goldie Remix)

This ninja has been going to parties and clubs for over a decade and half. Through all the sets, all the singles, all the albums, and all of the crazy nights, one genre has always stood out – drum and bass. Something about the fast paced snare hits, the smooth, rolling bass, and those often uplifting vocals always have us beaming, and today, we have just that.

London-based Goldie threw us for a bit of a loop on this remix, leading us to believe we were going to enter a world of fluid liquid sounds, gracefully rolling throughout a six-minute drum ‘n bass journey. Macy Gray’s soulful vocals helped with to build that assumption, all of which came blissfully crumbling down as razor sharp industrial elements came charging in after the build.

Reminding us a bit of Dieselboy’s The 6ixth Session, this remix is an intriguing ride. Hopefully it adds to the growing movement of this often forgotten, but legendary genre.

[Drum & Bass] The Prodigy – Nasty (Spor Remix)

The Prodigy
Nasty (Spor Remix)

The legendary Spor is back with a new remix! Following the hype on the new The Prodigy song “Nasty”, the UK producer is set to take over the revival of drum and bass music with this track. The heavyhitting bass is reminiscent of the classic DnB scene, giving us a retro vibe yet keeping things fresh. Spiced up and intensified, this remix is just what we wanted to hear. Spor made sure to toss in vocal samples from the original song and provide us with the ultimate adrenaline rush. It’s powerful, badass, and it sure will shake up the dance floor.

Whether you like old school drum and bass or not, Spor a.k.a Jon Gooch is definitely reestablishing his status as one of the game’s frontrunners. The hype is as real as it gets.

[Dance] The Prodigy – Nasty (Zinc Remix)

The Prodigy
Nasty (Zinc Remix)

Feeling nasty? This big beat banger by The Prodigy is remixed by fellow British producer/DJ Zinc, and it’s as nasty as it gets. The heavy-hitting original is stripped down and dressed up with another drum and bass outfit, providing a more refined sound. Strings that outline the original bassline are incorporated into the tune, as well as a series of deep bass synths. The result is an epic UK bass goodness that keeps you on your feet, headbang like crazy, or better yet, dance ’til your body can’t move anymore.

Big ups to the veteran DJ Zinc for bringing back the sound that everyone loves, and holding it down for the British dance scene. We cannot wait to see what magic he pulls in the future.
