[D&B/House] Kove – “Murmurations” EP

Out now via Chase & Status’ MTA Records is Kove’s new EP, “Murmurations.” This producer is an outstanding example of how far versatility can project their sound to a wider fan base – having only signed to the label a year or so ago, Kove now plays all over the world and has just been asked to join Netsky on his forthcoming US tour.

UK-based, Kove had his first release on Program – the sub label of Andy C’s drum and bass platform Ram Records. Now, he works in both house and drum and bass, ensuring that he satisfies the hoards of dance floor lovers that eagerly follow his progress. “Murmurations” follows on from last year’s “Measures” EP that was also split half and half with each genre.

House tracks here are “VCO” and “Drop” – the former being a garage-inspired cut with plenty of chopped vocals for texture and “Drop” adding on a touch of big room into this atmospheric jam. The drum and bass is of a typically high standard – he collaborated with promising talent Dimension for the vibrant “Feel Love Again” and the spaced-out, trippy “Still High” is an exquisite track.

Kove continues his rise to the top in spectacular style with this release – you can pick up “Murmurations” here.

Whenever we see a Rudimental remix pop up on our newsfeed, they can either win the internet or burn it to the ground…there really is no in between. If you’ve been around long enough then you all might have picked up by now that we don’t post shitty music, so don’t worry because we have a ninja-approved Rudimental remix that will 100% change your life. San Francisco producer and Future Funk beat maker, Kaptain, gave us a run for our money with his latest remix of Rudimental and Ella Eyre’s, “Waiting All Night”. 16 year old bass sensation P A T H has returned to TMN with another well thought out, groovy and glitched remix; this time of Jacuzzi’s “Curtain Call”. Coming off of an impressive and completely innovative rendition of Kimbra’s pop smash “Settle Down”, the Vermont native turns in another tune with a sound you would think to be beyond his years. An air of euphoria fills the tune from its onset of muted pads down to the first breath of dreamy string arrangements, and we just couldn’t seem to wrap our heads around its subtle intricacies with just one listen. Which is why it’s been on repeat at this writer’s desk for about twenty minutes now. And sticking to his altruistic record with his music, P A T H is giving this one away for free on FB here. Hop to it, slink back and let this one ride loud on a real set of monitors.

First things first – make sure to prepare you ears for the unexpected because they may or may not experience a euphoric pain with the latest Mat Zo remix of I See MONSTAS beautiful DnB track, “Circles”. Last month, “Circles” made its way across our newsfeed and we plunged into a vicious cycle of conflicting emotions that made us run from the feels and straight to the Kleenex box. Now that we have experienced the tear-jerking wonders of the original, it’s time to unleash a grimey new rendition from one of dance musics most profound producers, Mat Zo.

Mat Zo is notorious for his eclectic style of production; whether it be his charming global heart-melting track with Porter Robinson, “Easy”, or his funky electro-house anthem, “Pyramid”, Mat Zo has certainly made a point to his listeners that he is not one to succumb to pigeon-holing himself to one distinct sound. Instead he just plays with whatever he wants and Zo-ifies (new word) it up until it has that signature MZ vibe we all are familiar with. Well ninjas, Mat Zo is back with another genre-pusher in his latest remix of “Circles” and gives us another reason why he is the master at keeping us on our toes. Loaded with heavy elements of dubstep and DnB, Zo throws us an aggressive (and elegant) curveball full of grimey, filthy breakdowns interwtined with a certain delicateness to balance out the flow of the track. After a few listens through this unexpected anthem, it became apparent to us that Zo understands that there is a certain beauty found within chaos, and this remix evidently shows his artistic ability to make us feel mental in a state of complete sanity.

Make sure to peep the original video of “Circles” by I See MONSTAS and cry your eyes out- take this as a warning because you will feel a lot of intense emotions after watching this. Look at this way, it’s Monday, so now you have an excuse to tell your boss why you’re crying like a baby who hasn’t had an afternoon nap yet.

Even though summer’s waning, legs starting to ache from almost-endless dancing, heads reeling with delight from coast-to-coast festivals, there’s no reason to turn down now. Keeping true, I was fortunate enough to experience the reality-melting, immersive odyssey better known as Feed Me’s Psychedelic Journey at Denver’s Ogden Theater.

Though I’d seen Feed Me several times previously, the surprises seemed endless. For those that haven’t seen Feed Me’s with Teeth live show, here’s a quick breakdown: a wall to wall, devious glowing grin gnashes at the crowd, in tandem with explosive beats and soundscapes that stretch the entire sonic spectrum. London’s Jon Gooch is at the helm, masterminding it all. For those that have seen it before, picture it all again, but magnified, amplified, re-energized and reconsidered.

Delta Heavy heavily instigated the entire party, igniting the crowd with dance-heavy hits, peppered with bass-soaked favorites along with tracks wholly new, such as Knife Party’s “Resistance,” a set which truly showcased DJ virtuosity and complete crowd awareness. When the time came for the curtains to drop and bare the Teeth, the crowd was properly charged.
