[Drum and Bass] Bryzone – Trial Run/Stargaze

If your attention hasn’t already been drawn to the work of new drum and bass imprint Soulvent Records, you need to become familiar with their sound, sharpish. The London-based label have just released their second offering since establishing themselves in the latter half of 2013 via the work of BMotion. A small, independent collection of like-minded creatives, I would firmly attest that Soulvent will continue to deliver high calibre releases as time goes on.

Bryzone is the next young talent to step up to the plate with his single Trial Run ft. Jenny Mayhem. A glorious slice of shimmering liquid, Mayhem’s softly undulating vocals make the ideal accompaniment to the prominent melody. The sophisticated use of piano riffs and elegant subtlety behind this track display Bryzone’s soulful approach to production.

On the flip comes ‘Stargaze’, a deeper and slightly more melancholy piece, still incorporating gentle piano and adding a surging wave of strings to majestic effect.

A pair of tracks with summer vibes written all over them, these are an essential addition to any D&B lover’s collection. Available on both Beatport & iTunes.

[ULTRA 2014 Schedule Recommendation] TMN’s Must See Guide to Ultra (Miami 3/28 – 3/30)

1239423_10152109764737739_1828179057_n

Ahh. The time is finally here. All winter long we’ve been angrily looking at the calendar, not-so-patiently awaiting the start of festival season here in the states. To kick things off in 2014, we’re obviously overwhelmingly excited for what Ultra 2014 is bringing to the table.

As you would guess, this year’s line up is stacked, as usual. There’s a veritable pantheon of EDM legends, coupled with some amazing up and coming artists as well. We traditionally like to do a full stream of everyone that’s going to be there, but this year we’re going to change it up. Instead of giving you a tiny sample of each artist who’s playing, we’re going to give you our recommendations, day by day.

Scheduling is going to be tricky, so make sure you set out a proper game plan. It might be hard to stick to after a few beverages, but take it from us – don’t miss out on seeing your favorite artist, or any of these suggestions below:

Friday March 28th

Chainsmokers – Stage 7

Picked by Bryn Carter & Clayton Warwick

1489283_686915398007520_56981355_n

TMN Staff Comment: Two handsome devils reigning from New York who can make ANY song the ultimate remix. Make sure to check out these two who will keep your feet moving and your mind spinning with their intense indie/electronic melodies.

’The Wanted – We Own The Night(The Chainsmokers Remix)’
’The Chainsmokers vs. Tove Lo – Habits’
’#SELFIE’

Friday March 28th

M.I.A. – Live Stage

Picked by Eric Gossett

mia300-790e9b19a08dbe8b6be20c05655262c4260e563f-s6-c30
TMN Staff Comment: The ever-controversial M.I.A. is definitely a “don’t miss” performance at this year’s Ultra Music Festival. The singer just released her critically-acclaimed album Matangi last year and is currently being sued by the NFL for $15 million for her performance at the Super Bowl. So if that was what they (couldn’t) show at the Super Bowl, I can only imagine how wild her uncensored stage show must be.

’BRING THE NOIZE’
’M.I.A. – Bad Girls’
’27’

Friday March 28th

12TH Planet – UMF Radio Stage

Picked by Clayton Warwick

12thplanet

TMN Staff Comment: Last year, I had the pleasure of introducing someone to trap, and did so by watching 12th Planet’s set on Sunday afternoon. This well respected, LA based producer will be throwing down a massive set full of filthy beats. If you want to get down and dirty, don’t miss this set.

’Pretty Lights
Go Down Sunshine (12th Planet Remix)’
’Smoked Out’
’12th Planet & Protohype
“Paper” on @smogrecords’

Friday March 28th

Kill The Noise – UMF Radio Stage

Picked by Michael Serratore

Kill-The-Noise-Kill-Kill-Kill-EP

TMN Staff Comment: There are plenty of players in the world of filthy bass, but no one does it quite like KTN. There’s an undeniable energy in everything he does, and that will only be taken to the next level amongst a crowd of frenzied fans

’Thumbs Up (For Rock N’ Roll) with Feed Me’
’DUCKSAUCE – NRG (Skrillex, Kill The Noise, Milo & Otis RMX)’
’Kill The Noise & Dillion Francis – Dill The Noise’

Friday March 28th

Chance the Rapper – Live Stage

Picked by Baseer Ahmad and Clayton Warwick

Chance-the-Rapper

TMN Staff Comment: You say you’re going to Ultra to only listen to beats? Don’t limit yourself. A break in the bass will be welcomed, and who better to give you said break than Chi-Town native, Chance the Rapper?

’Childish Gambino: They Dont Like Me (ft. Chance the Rapper)’
’Lil Wayne – You Song Ft Chance The Rapper (Dedication 5)’
’Chance The Rapper – Brain Cells Live (5day)’

Friday March 28th

The Glitch Mob – Worldwide Stage

Picked by Rachel Haroldson

Glitch-Mob-Love-Death-Immortality

TMN Staff Comment: This is a no brainer. Glitch Mob absolutely throws down with live performances, from the insane stage set-ups to the energy of the group, you can just see that these guys have a passion for performing and love giving the audience an unforgettable show.

’Nalepa – Monday (The Glitch Mob Remix)’
’A Dream Within a Dream – DRINK THE SEA’
’The Glitch Mob – We Can Make The World Stop’

The Glitch Mob Talks Coachella, True Detective and Pink Floyd [TMN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Glitch Mob

TMN: Hey guys, thank you so much for taking some time to chat with us. There’s quite a bit to talk to you guys about! From Love Death Immortality coming out on February 11th to the Coachella announcement, you guys have had a busy winter!

Absolutely. Things are in a pressure cooker right now. Our happy place.

TMN: Let’s start off with talking about the Coachella announcement. Since starting in 2006, you’ve played at some of the most significant venues. How does it feel to come to Coachella this year?

Coachella is one of the most ridiculously awesome events on earth, and we’re grateful to get to play for a second time. Some of our very first shows to massive crowds were at Coachella, playing unofficial shows on the The Do Lab’s circus-freak misting side stage. So this will actually be our 5th Coachella. It’s way too much fun.

TMN: What is the set list looking like? Are you going to go heavy on the new album, or do a blend of some new and some old? Any surprise guests we should expect?

Oh yeah, we’ll be playing the new album on tour. Plenty of classics too. It was designed for the live stage — the whole experience will really come alive on a massive sound system. There will be some other tricks up the ol’ sleeve, but you’ll have to come to the show to see…

TMN: While Coachella is huge, you have to have some other large venues that are still on your bucket list. What’s “the one” venue or festival that’s you haven’t played at just yet?

We are excited to hopefully play Glastonbury at some point, we hear it’s massive!

NEW FEATURE: PLAYABLE ARTIST UNIT

Hey Ninjas! We are growing really tired of depending on advertising networks with intrusive pop up ads and auto playing music.

It has been a long dream of The Music Ninja to bring you a site without cluttering advertisement. However, this has been a constant challenge and as we continue to grow, we face expensive roadblocks that take away from our overall core values.

Today we are very proud to finally have come with a solution that will benefit artists as well as bring extra revenue to the site in a much more interactive way.

Introducing our in-house PLAYABLE ARTIST WIDGET.

We have built a tool that will let artists promote themselves, their music and even upcoming tour dates. The sponsored unit will live in our sidebar, clearly labeled and in the least intrusive way possible. ANYONE CAN SIGN UP, whether you are a small bedroom producer or a label backed DJ.

Our prices will soon change, and perhaps even become private as we try to find the right balance, but with SXSW going on, we just wanted to launch it and build from the feedback we get. Soon, if it provides successful, we can eliminate all other ads on the site and start to enjoy a cleaner interface (something we have wanted from the very beginning).

If you are an artist that would like to get more exposure, sign up right now and let us help you.

For information on adding FLYERS or Advertising on our standard displays, contact us at ads@themusicninja.com

Feature list:

– Automated but SUPPORTED ( We will provide any type of support you need getting you starting as well as while the campaign runs)
– Soundcloud API Support (You will be able to track all your plays just as if we posted the embed on the site).
– Live tool (Our live tool lets you preview the widget before you submit the campaign, if you need any additional changes, we will gladly help you at ads@themusicninja.com)
– Concert Dates with Links (We let you link anywhere you want your fans to buy your tickets)
– Ninja Look (We tried to make it as part as the site as possible for higher interactivity)

This of course does not change any other aspect of the site. All the rest of the blog posts and tracks are hand picked by our team of ninjas that believe integrity can only be achieved with providing quality tracks every day.

As always thank you for your time! We are excited for what else we can improve 2014.

[Drum and Bass] Taiwan Mc ft. Biga Ranx – Mojo Rydim (Jamie Bostron Remix)

Taiwan Mc ft. Biga Ranx
Mojo Rydim (Jamie Bostron Remix)

Okay, so we all know that every now and again an artist will decide to do a remix competition; release their track then let DJs all over the world muck about with it. Now a lot of these remixes can suck with these kinda comps, but every now and again you get an absolute gem. This is the case with this track.

Jamie Bostron (J Bostron for short) is an up and comer from Glasgow, Scotland. Because of that there isn’t a huge amount we can tell you about the guy. This isn’t the kind of song to suit if you’re having a lazy Sunday but if you feel like taking a break from doing sweet F A then have a listen to this. J Bostron has taken Taiwan MC & Biga Ranx’ new track “Mojo Rydim” and made it his own. Expect elements of that ragga sound, some real nice dubwise beats and a drop that will make you wanna get up and stomp around.
