Kavinsky – Nightcall (Ardency Remix) [TMN PREMIERE]

Kavinsky
Nightcall (Ardency Remix)

As we struggle to hit our snooze button for the eleventh time this morning, we can’t help but close our eyes and sigh at the daunting fact that today is only Tuesday and we are as far away possible from the weekend. Knowing that we still have 3 days of monotony to endure makes us really want to pull the sheets over our head and ignore all of our adult responsibilities for the rest of the day. We here at TMN often find ourselves in this state of mind, however, we tend to remedy these heavy eyelids with some soothing music to refresh our negative mindsets into a more optimistic lime light. Helping lift our spirits and carry us through this mundane day are electronic duo, Ardency and their euphoric remix of Kanvinsky’s famous song, “Nightcall”. Through their emotive approach to this track, they successfully re-worked this wonder into something truly ethereal.

Ardency mentions to us that “this song is simple but thought out and meaningful. Every part of it was made to convey the brooding emotion of Kavinsky’s character. We wanted to stay true to our style while making a remix that did the original justice. Ultimately, the goal of our music is to stimulate emotion within our listeners; we want to make people feel.”

Filled with elongated notes of pure divinity, powerful percussive elements that burst with emotion, and mystical, melodic builds that lead up to a beautiful release, Ardency turns this Kavinsky classic into a memorable piece of art that will swoon you for all eternity. As we await the drop of their upcoming Gradience EP (out next month via Prep School Recordings), Ardency is releasing their “Nightcall” remix for free so we can have something to sit on until then. We can’t wait to hear what’s up their sleeve next, but for now we will just utilize the repeat button until further notice.

[Minimal-Bass] Primal Intent – Bar In Every Room

PRIMAL INTENT
Bar In Every Room

It’s clear that South African producer Martin Folb maintains an astute and forward thinking grasp on electronic production that other artists could only dream of. From his inspiring work with PANTyRAID and multi-faceted MartyParty solo project, Folb has put forth quite the diverse library of music over the years. Yet Primal Intent, his newest collaboration with Miami bred Paul Gorman, sees a paradigm shift into the world of more club driven beats, and away from the more expansive, glitch wielding tunes which have been attached to the MartyParty & PANTyRAID brands. The duo’s first single, “Bar In Every Room” delves within a multitude of styles from minimal techno, soul, and all permutations of the prefix before “-step”. We’re bounced back and forth between layered two-step melody, pounding four-four bass and hip-hop infused claps; giving off an ambience somewhere between Berghain’s darkest techno parties and a straightforward trap banger. Primal Intent’s debut self-titled LP is set to be released tomorrow, November 18th, on iTunes so before then, get your fix with “Bar In Every Room” above.

[Electronica] Alesso feat. Tove Lo – Heroes (Jai Wolf Remix)

Alesso feat. Tove Lo
Heroes (Jai Wolf Remix)

New York-based producer Jai Wolf just released another big-time remix! Spicing up Alesso‘s “Heroes”, this rework screams Jai Wolf’s character and talents. A dreamy trap beat and synthwave elements are incorporated into the tune, further accentuating Tove Lo‘s soothing vocals. The instrumental isn’t overdone, yet it stands out because its subtle dissonance that mixes absurdly well with the rest of the track. Everything about this tune really hits the spot, resembling sounds of Odesza and other electronica acts. Hats off to Mr. Jai Wolf.

Following the success of his “Say My Name” remix, Jai Wolf is setting the bar even higher with this new release. We are very excited to see what else he has in store for us.

[Denver Giveaway] SOHN – 11/10 – Larimer Lounge

SOHN
The Chase

Vienna-based Londoner SOHN‘s name has been one synonymous with TMN’s softer and emotive side since his premiere single “The Wheel” back in 2012, and since then what was once a snowball’s worth of hype has accumulated into a full fledged avalanche which has seen his moniker attached to projects like Banks & Angel Haze, releases on classic indie labels like 4AD, and countless other distinctions. So when SOHN’s ambient palate of electronicism touches down tomorrow, Monday the 10th at the Larimer Lounge in Denver, we wanted at least a few of our Ninja friends there representing. We’re giving away two pairs of tickets to the show, and as always, entering is beyond simple. To set the mood and stack the odds in your favor, listen to “The Chase” from SOHN above.

There are a few rules, of course:
– You must be 18+ to enter.
– You are responsible for transportation.
– You must bring a valid form of ID to pick up your tickets at will call.
-You ABSOLUTELY MUST be ready to get lost in a constant state of swoon, completely lost in the dreamy nature of SOHN’s music

DiRTY RADiO
Infinity (Beat by: Esta ft. J-Bird)

We’ve been staying on top of Canadian PBR&B triumvirate DiRTY RADiO’s vocal remix series since its inception, which thus far has seen them rework sultry tunes from Darius and Pomo to name a few, and today they’re back with the latest entry “Infinity”. “Infinity” takes Esta’s sexy piano laden J-Bird featured burner “Moet” and boosts the tune with a signature blend of provocative vocal stylings and velvety choices in instrumental backing. We’ve been feeling all sorts of sexy going through DiRTY RADiO’s remixes, and we think that’s a feeling you NInjas should experience as well. Once again, DiRTY RADiO’s giving this one away for free in exchange for a Facebook “Like”, so hop on over and add this to your iTunes collection.

[Album Stream] Mansions On The Moon – Mansions on the Moon

There’s no hiding the fact that we’ve become just a little bit enamored with alt-pop Casanovas Mansions on the Moon. And on that note, we’ve been waiting ever so patiently for their debut long-player like good little ninjas for just slightly over four years now. Yesterday, the So-Cal ensemble finally released their self-titled album and truthfully, some of us have been looping it for just over 24 hours straight. We’ve previously covered a handful of singles –“Radio”, “The Truth”, “Don’t Tell”, “Somewhere Else Tonight”, “Heart Of The Moment”- but our ears have obviously been a bit more glued to the cuts in which we had never previously consumed including “Take A Ride”, “Notice Me” and “All There Is”. We got lead vocalist Ted Wendler to say a few words about each of the ten tracks contained within Mansions On The Moon, and here’s what one of our favorite indie-pop crooners graced us with:

1. “Radio” was written in response to growing pressure for the band to write a breakout radio pop single.  We set out to create a poppy track that ironically spoke of the growing lack of unoriginality in radio pop music today.

2. We wrote “Don’t Tell” while we were stranded in Scranton, Pennsylvania because our northeast coast dates were cancelled due to super storm Sandy.  We set up a studio in the hotel and made lemonade out of lemons.
3. “Somewhere Else Tonight” has been with the band for a very long time.  We’ve been playing it live for two years while we not so patiently waited for the completion of our first full length album.
4. “Where You Are” started with an instrumental foundation laid down by TRAKGIRL. Ted used a TC Helicon processor to achieve the robotic sound of the vocals.  Then we went hambodian in the studio to take it to where it is now.
5.  The lyrics for “Take A Ride” were written in Missoula Montana in 2006, the instrumental was completed with Paper Diamond in Boulder Colorado and the vocals were finally recorded in a closet in Los Feliz.
6. Ted first recorded the vocals for “Notice Me” over an acoustic arrangement.  The band, along with Sunny Norway and David Ott, used the original acapellas and took the song to a completely different space.  Maybe someday we will release the original acoustic version.
7. “The Truth” was the last song we wrote for the album.  Lane was insistent that it needed to be included in the release.  After Baby Jeff laid down the P-Funk the deal was sealed.
8. “Heart Of The Moment”  was written by our bassist Jeff and inspired by a spiritual revelation. We played the track for Zee Avi while hanging out at a friend’s apartment in downtown LA. She graciously accepted our request to sing on the song.  The version appearing on the album is remixed, re-arranged and remastered from its original release.
9. On “All There Is” Ben wrote the instrumental foundation for his mom as a birthday present.  Then Ted used this to write the lyrics.  We hope to inspire people to revisit forgotten dreams and goals they had in their youth, no matter how impossible they may seem.

10. Ted wrote “Time” while house sitting in the mountain town of Roanoke Virginia.  He spent that month prolifically writing and recording while a English bulldog named Oscar snored in the  background.

And there you have it. Now that you’ve got a bit of insight into the psyche of Mansions as they wrote their first album, take just under forty minutes and listen to their worthy entry into the LP format in its entirety below.

[Electronic] MAZDE – Shifted Thoughts ft. La Mar

Mazde
Shifted Thoughts (feat La Mar)

The artistic musical project of genre bending German electronic producer Matthias Dierkes, Mazde, is back with a rock solid original recording, “Shifted Thoughts”. After first being featured here on TMN with a sterling remix of S O H N’s “The Wheel”, the enlightened 20 year old has come through with a promising and dynamic EP, fittingly titled Shifted Thoughts, which is the first release out on Australian tastemaker dance giants Stoney Roads’ new imprint. The title track from Mazde’s aforementioned extended play, “Shifted Thoughts” is a thinking listener’s take on an accessible glitched out two-step infused electronic record. Mazde’s newest single rides a hauntingly gorgeous vocal track from La Mar and like much of the incredible electronic music being pushed by our Aussie amigos, it’s an astutely wound soundscape dripping in texture. We’re certainly excited to see what else is coming down the pipe from Mazde as his work grows more mature and finely tuned with every passing release. Stream “Shifted Thoughts” above and check out the B-Side “Forest Of Gold” here.
