Built around new music from Gorillaz, HAIM & Sylvan Esso, this pre-recorded sesh became a meditation on pop music in the broadest sense. Highlighting some left field, up ‘n comers alongside those more established artists made for far-ranging sounds. To close the show, Ninja Ash took his XDJs out for a mini-mix of some vibey house tunes.

Still Woozy – Vacation [TMN PREMIERE]

Still Woozy
Vacation

Although we normally associate Mondays with dread, the optimist inside tells us it’s an opportunity for a fresh start. Today, we’ve got a premiere that both literally and sonically embodies a sense of new beginnings. Still Woozy is a new project from Oakland’s Sven Gamsky, who’s voice you may recognize from his work as part of Ninja favorites Feed Me Jack

“Vacation” may just be the perfect single for introductions–easing the listener in with an inviting guitar loop, minimal percussion and breezy vocals. As the song develops, however, electronic layers begin to seep through starting with a fluttering vocal chop at the first chorus. Wobbling synths follow shortly after and by the time the song comes to a close, the listener is fully enveloped by a blissful sonic eruption. The masterful progression of “Vacation” make it a truly transformative experience without any abrupt or jarring bridges–by the time you reach the finale you might wonder how you got there in the first place. The more you listen, the more the journey begins to reveal itself giving it endless replay value.

Take a trip with this one above (or below if on mobile) and keep your eye out for more music from Still Woozy.

Light Bodies – Gravity [TMN PREMIERE]

Light Bodies
Gravity

You hear that? It’s the faintest of rumblings coming over the horizon. It brings with it unadulterated freedom and a worry-free vibe that will wash over you in just a few hours. By now you should have guessed it –it’s the weekend and its charge is being led by a phenomenal collection of tunes from the newly-founded Bribery Corporation. If you’re not familiar just yet, don’t worry. This record label/fashion house is set to make a huge splash, as today’s release will indicate.

Dropping as a free download in partnership with BitTorrent, “Gravity” is one of twelve tunes that highlight the tastes of this Miami-based project. Written, produced, and sung by Light Bodies, who has somehow flown under our radar, it was a personal favorite amongst the mix. If this track is any indicator of what’s to come, we can easily assume that it won’t be long before more people start to catch on.

“Gravity” is a sultry stunner, heavily driven by smooth a thumping, seductive bassline, minimalistic beeps, brooding piano chords, and some otherworldy vocals. It’s alluring, but not overwhelming or overdone–a perfect balance of soul-driven lyrics and gorgeous production sure to incite some goosebumps throughout the ride.

If you’re digging “Gravity,” make sure to grab the full bundle on BitTorrent.

Talal Qureshi – After Party [TMN PREMIERE]

Talal Qureshi
After Party with Rehma

Talal Qureshi has woven through so many styles of music throughout his near decade long career as a producer, from hip-hop beats to hard-edged dance and dubstep, ambient textures, and arrangements which rebuke genre. His new single “After Party” blends colorful synthesizers, strong drums and a sultry melody to create a fun and accessible sound that lifts high a radiant vocal feature from the 16-year-old singer Rehma out of Los Angeles.

If this track came on in a cab on my way from a party to an after party, I would be zoning. The elements are all there – a beautiful voice, synths that shmooze then soar, just the right amount of pop frills, and critical, kicking percussion. With the windows down heading to that after party, maybe just to find a certain someone, and this track would cinch it all together.

Qureshi, born in Saudi Arabia but based in Pakistan, continues to diversify his offerings. After remixing great pop selections and producing grade A instrumentals, it’s exciting to hear him bring in a vocal feature and create a catchy top-40 style tune. “After Party” is a preview of what we can expect from Qureshi’s upcoming Acha EP due out in early 2017.
