Following up to his title single, “I Have No Fear” is another wonderful surprise from chillwave producer Tourist’s forthcoming Tonight EP. Soft and delicate layers of somber electronica that are still able to induce so much emotion, is really what sets the Brighton-based apart from the rest.
At the turn of the year, there’s always a few things we get excited for. There’s always the excitement of new Music Ninja programs we’re launching, plans of grandeur for the upcoming year, new album releases, and of course, music festivals. We’re just out of the gate for 2013, and we have to say, we’re really stoked for what lies ahead.
First up on our list of festivals is the largest electronica festival in North America. The setting is perfect, as Miami is already a hub for the scene. But when you take the party outside, onto Bayfront Park, you know you’re in for an epic weekend.
With the announcement of the Phase 2 Lineup, we thought it would be a perfect time to share some of our favorite tracks from the performing artists this year. So here’s our 2013 Ultra Music Festival Mega Playlist. Once you listen to it, head over and pick up your tickets.

Australian duo Jagwar Ma host a sonic rave of sorts on their new single “The Throw”. Featuring meandering pop lines and psychedelic fanfare, it’s the kind of free-spirited tune that soundtracks a true wild night on the town full of flowing alcohol and high moments of absolute euphoria. Check it out below and be sure to peep the official video here.
After experiencing one of the best movies ever created, Inglorious Bastards, it was obvious that another Tarantino revenge story would provide just as much pleasure. Django, a love story that wraps around themes of revenge and justice was accompanied by one of the most modern soundtracks in the last couple of years. However, the main Django theme song is not so recent, originally composed in 1966 by Luis Bacalov. Spanish producer Guts, took the already excellent original and made a slow, easily digesting chill rendition.
ILLA, better known as 1/3 of THEBLKHANDS, decided to show off his versatility as a producer by dropping these brand new remixes on his recently created SoundCloud page. The first of these two is a remix of Drake‘s “Doing It Wrong” from his Take Care album. ILLA’s iteration of the track manages to keep the essence of the original, while speeding up the vocals and adding some trap snares to give it a more upbeat vibe. It isn’t a banger by any means, but he does infuse it with a more relaxing melody as opposed to the depressing nature it started out with. We have a feeling Drizzy himself would be proud of this one.
With his second remix, ILLA decides to proceed down another route as he turns the “Smoke Good, Live Good” track he produced for THEBLKHANDS into a certified acid house banger. Even with the bars intact, none of the verses seem to sound out of place. If anything, Three 6 Mafia‘s energetic vocals seem more at home on this version of the song. It’s a major departure from the chill vibes of the original, but somehow it works to perfection. Both remixes can be downloaded for free from ILLA’s SoundCloud page. Also, stay tuned for Serbia, THEBLKHANDS’ upcoming album, dropping on March 19th.
The Knife’s long-awaited return has been as thrilling and utterly bonkers as we could ever have hoped for. Following some dodgy audio streams floating around the web last week, the Swedish duo have revealed the suitably unhinged visuals for their “Full Of Fire” single. Sound tracking the nine-minute techno-inspired assault with scenes of bondage, cross dressing and public urination, it’s certainly an interesting and slightly NSFW way to start the week …
Everyone loves lyrics. Whether they’re light-hearted and playful, soul-gripping and gut-wrenching, or abstract and avant garde, we all love to sing along, relate certain verses to our personal lives, or just be taken away by another person’s story.
On the other hand, hearing a great instrumental track is an entirely different experience. Without having words to identify with, your brain is free to let the music create an image in your mind. The interpretation is more so up to you than if you had someone defining it with their own words. Having this blank canvas allows your mind to wander, providing you with a perfect experience to express your own creativity.
While this is a great idea in concept, putting together a great playlist of instrumental artists is extremely difficult. We could easily outline ten different genres from classical, to jazz, to ambient electronic. Also, do vocal samples count? What about humming? What about bands that sometimes sing, and sometimes do instrumental tracks? We went back and forth on how we should create this, and finally decided to just throw together some of our personal favorites along with a few other suggestions from close friends, Bruke at Spread Label, James at Rising Digital, and the rest of the TMN staff.
