Wanderhouse – Sugar

The delicacies of music are always more exposed the more you listen to it. And with each playback, the brilliance in the execution of every detailed sound from Wanderhouse, a new project from Marie Moreshead + Doctor Rosen Rosen, becomes all the more apparent. The formation of a more perfect union was first exemplified in their single “Use Me Up” released last year, which can only really be described as The Glitch Mob on Valium. The sensual vocals from Marie Moreshead that lend themselves to be elongated by the subtle trip/hop production of Doctor Rosen Rosen, make it a perfect musical cocktail to consume late into the evening.

This week Wanderhouse released ‘Sugar’, following the similar blueprint of its predecessors. The soft and warming instrumentals are yet again elevated by powerful and surreal vocals. Another profoundly harmonic release from the duo.

[NEW] Flying Lotus – Such a Square

Flying Lotus reunites with Adam “Lilfuchs” Fuchs–the animator who brought Captain Murphy to life–to introduce Moog’s Sup Phatty synthesizer to the world. They could not have plucked a better pair to showcase the new instrument’s capabilities, as FlyLo’s trippy, eccentric beats are deeply complemented by the sensory overload created through Fuchs’ euphoric visuals. After a stellar 2012, Lotus is showing no signs of fatigue. Let’s just hope we get some more material from him (either as Lotus or Murphy) now that he has this brand new toy to play with.

[Chill] Nosaj Thing – Try (ft. Toro Y Moi)

For his latest single, LA-based ethereal producer, Nosaj Thing, teams up with the always funky indie-electronic artist, Toro y Moi. The resulting track, titled “Try,” elevates the listener to a cloudy state of consciousness leaving us suspended in mid-air at its closing. This is a great one to cure any Saturday hangover or just to take a step back and relax.

“Try” will be featured on Nosaj Thing’s highly anticipated upcoming LP, Home, which is set to drop this Tuesday, January 22nd. Toro y Moi’s latest album, Anything in Return, will be out on the same day, but can now be streamed in its entirety over at Pitchfork. Check this incredibly smooth cut below. Chill, ninjas!

[New] MØ – GLASS

The powerfully beautiful sounds of Copenhagen-based electro-pop artist MØ have come to life once more with her new single “Glass”. Coming off her release of “Pilgrim” back in October of last year, her new track is a much calmer rendition that accentuates her magnificent vocal range over a subtle rhythm of trap influenced drum patterns, calypso-like melodies and non-intrusive electronics.

MØ will be releasing ‘Pilgrim’ in February Neon Gold Stateside and Chess Club in Europe. ‘GLASS’ can be purchased now on Danish iTunes.

Ryan Hemsworth – An Overture Might Help Me Stop Thinking About You

Ryan Hemsworth, known primarily for his well executed and minimalist influenced hip/hop productions, is back an absolute gem to kickstart the new year. Just after his release of ‘BasedWolrd’ on January 2nd of 2013, to which he gave away for free, the Canadian producer experiments once more with an emotional filled instrumentational track titled ‘An Overture Might Help Me Stop Thinking About You’. While it lacks the grandeur of its predecessor ‘BasedWolrd’, he remains consistent at layering intricate sounds to form one smooth and coherent environment of harmony.

‘An Overture Might Help Me Stop Thinking About You’ comes from a recent Friends of Friends (FoF) Compilation, an eclectic 7-track compilation “exploring all aspects of the electronic soundscape with elements of wintry vibes”.

[Experimental] Kids of the Apocalypse – Masters of the Sun

With the heavy influence of EDM and dubstep in mainstream music over the past couple years, the boundaries for genres of music have become increasingly non-existant. As 2013 hits, the sound of “pop” music is involving into more of an eclectic mix that was once only heard on the underground. This concept is becoming more apparent with the debut single “Masters of the Sun” from newcomers Kids of the Apocalypse. This international group mixes elements of dubstep, trap, synth, and vocals from a children’s choir to create a unique and intriguing track that could easily be the sound of pop music for an ever-changing new generation. [Experimental] Fol Chen – 200 Words

Los Angeles’ electro/indie pop group Fol Chen plan to release their fourth LP, The False Alarms, this Spring. Today, we get a first taste of that album with “200 Words,” a tune that seems made for secret late night rendezvous. Slinky and seductive, it moves alongside slow beats and even lower synth work, led by Sinosa Loa’s hypnotic vocals. Check out the dark and sexy track below.
