The profound and nearly indescribable Björk released her seventh album, Biophilia, last October. On November 19th, she puts out its remix album entitled bastards via One Little Indian. The 13-track collection includes work by folks like Hudson Mohawke, Death Grips, These New Puritans and more. You can check out two of its songs below and then stream all of bastards via the lovely folks at The Guardian.

[Experimental] American Royalty – Honey & Queen
Los Angeles’ own experimental outfit American Royalty give off psychedelic rock/electro-pop vibes on their latest song “Honey & Queen,” off the forthcoming Prismatic EP. Led by droning, mechanized vocals and accompanied by bewitching tribal percussion patterns and buzzing beats, it’s a grizzly track that’s one part wild dance ritual, one part hypnotic magic. According to the band, instead of relying on stock digital samples, they found their own sources of percussion, one of which was a water cooler! Light up a bonfire, summon your inner animal and throw this track on:
American Royalty’s Prismatic EP is due out February 2013.
[NEW] CSS – I’ve Seen You Drunk Gurl
For the past few months, Brazilian new wave/electro rock band CSS have been hard at work putting together a new record, the follow up to 2011’s La Liberacion. Today, we get a peek into the future with their latest single “I’ve Seen You Drunk Gurl”. CSS — which stands for Cansei de Ser Sexy and means “I got tired of being sexy” in Portuguese — don’t disappoint, providing the kind of crazy party romp we’d expect. Get ready to hear this chorus yelped out every time there’s alcohol flowing.
“I’ve Seen You Drunk Gurl” will be included on an EP, due out soon on Dave Sitek’s Federal Prism.
[Experimental] Emily Wells – Becomes The Color
Genre-defying musician Emily Wells marries hip-hop, indie folk, synth pop and classical music in a truly inspiring and interesting way. A one-woman show, she plays multiple instruments but is an especially accomplished violinist. Though her latest album, Mama, only dropped earlier this year via Partisan, she’s been asked to help compose the soundtrack for Stoker, a film directed by Park Chan-wook, starring Nicole Kidman. Her offering, “Becomes the Color,” is a pleasantly hypnotic and groovy track.
Stoker hits the theaters March 1st, 2013.
[Moombah-Swing] The McMash Clan – Swing Break feat Kate Mullins
Moombah-swing? Yep, you read right, it’s a thing. Well if it wasn’t before, after this track from The McMash Clan, it certainly is now. The producer trio from London bring us a clash of sounds from the past and the present to create something incredibly fresh. It’s a bold move to take drum samples, brass elements and catchy vocals reminiscent of the 30’s era and combine them with lazer synths and heavy moombahcore drops of modern day electronic music, but boy does this crazy concoction work! One moment you find yourself clicking your fingers and kicking out your legs as if swing was the dance you were born to do, and the next your body is jumping up and down under the control of that crazy bass. It’s ironic that when we’re looking for new innovations in modern dance music, there is so much potential in the styles of the past. This one is an absolute gem. Hit play and let your body move in whatever way it so chooses.
[Hip-Hop/Experimental] Emay – Into It
Many of you out there may already be familiar with Emay, but for those of you who aren’t, you’ve been missing out on some fantastic music. The young Canadian emcee has already proven he has an innate knack for music, creating a formative sound that’s easily recognizable, yet never stale. While traditionally wearing the dual hat of both a rapper and producer on many of his songs, Emay takes a break away from the mic on this one, giving us a closer glimpse into the creative process involved in creating his distinctive beats.
He does an excellent job on his brand new Into It EP, a play on the word Intuit, the title of the Ramona Falls album from which the project’s source material comes. While most samples involve taking a minute portion of a song and looping it over continuously, Emay does a great job of complementing the original work instead, and employing his unique talents to transform the tracks completely.
If you like what you hear from Emay, you can download the EP from Potholes Music right here. Also, if you’d like to hear the man spit some bars as well, make sure to check out the rest of his music on his official website.
