TMBA – Obsessed (Our Time Remix) [TMN Premiere]

TBMA
Obsessed (feat. Lynn Gvnn) (Our Time Remix)

It’s Monday and the coffee is brewing, the music is blasting, and the hangover is just now starting to fade away. The perfect way to cure any case of the post-weekend blues is to simply indulge yourself in some hyphy new tunes to prepare yourself for the week to come. This week isn’t like any other week, my friends, because it is officially the start of festival season. The TMN team is gearing up for weekend 1 of Coachella, which in my books, just means it’s about to be an epic weekend full of shenanigans. In lieu of this week’s festivities, we have the perfect track to describe every ninja’s feelings about Coachella, all thanks to the artists Our Time and TMBA.

TMBA just recently put out their original new dubstep tune, “Obsessed,” which left everyone obsessing over the replay button. With a slew of artists throwing out their renditions of this gorgeous track, we were recently sent a unique electro house spin on this song by Tulsa natives, Our Time. Right from the beginning, the track starts us off with a heavy kick and catchy beat that builds up into a soft, melodic intro for Lynn Gvnn to showcase her unique voice. Our Time placed a lot of emphasis on the vocals and dirty breakdowns in their remix for TMBA, in which they took an adorable (yet heavy) sounding song and transformed it into a nasty, hectic dance anthem that is  sure to make people lose their mind. Try not to obsess over this one, ninjas and have a happy Monday!

[Chill/Funk-Step] MOSIS – You&Me + Two Fresh Remix

There certainly hasn’t been any shortage of quality music emanating out of Denver as of late and we can chalk up another two polished electronic compositions to that consistent stream of superfluity. Savvy beatsmith MOSIS was the latest artist to catch our eye from the Western U.S.’ electronic landscape (or ears for that matter), especially behind his latest sonic architectural achievement “You&Me”, which was self-released just last week. Exploiting elements from house and garage, hip-hop, and all things ending in “step”, “You&Me” strikes a chord amongst every side of this writer’s electronic listening scale in the most beautiful of ways. That same gift of fusion has simultaneously been the catalyst behind a diverse production index and live shows supporting artists as polar as Disclosure, Lapalux, option4, Tourist, Daedelus,  Nosaj Thing and a host of more influential musicians within the dance panorama. If any rising artist deserves a bit of crate-digging from their new fans right this second, we’ll gladly point you the way of MOSIS.

Not ones to sell ourselves short here at TMN, we’re also excited to be dropping the official remix from yet another monster Denver group: Two Fresh. The low-end leaning twins usher “You&Me” in another stimulating direction entirely. Whereas MOSIS’ original lends itself to blissful spaced-out dancefloor or listening vibes, Two Fresh’s revision gets us all hot and bothered; rather inducing the need to grind and twerk to their gluey, wonked out bass line. Both tracks more than have us stoked today, and you can bet our gaze has been fixated towards the “thick” mountain air over there for more tunes in the near future. Check out both tracks below, and take home a free digital copy of MOSIS’ original track here.

[Amazing] Phonat – Never EP

Hailing from possibly one of the best cities in the world, Florentine seven foot beatsmith Phonat dropped a four track EP a few weeks ago, and it’s pretty damn amazing. Seamlessly fusing countless genres, this eclectic synergy of musical expression has us pressing play over and over again.

The Never EP boasts four tunes, two originals and two subsequent remixes of the title track. First up on the EP is a 70’s inspired glitch-hop tune that gracefully highlights sinfully delicious guitar work, coupled with a raw yet smooth funk vocal sample. While “Never” as a whole has an underground hip hop feel, the melodic synth work really brings it full circle back to the dancefloor.

One of the remixes that accompanies this tune comes via UK based Asa and Sorrow, and comes in fierce with some dialed up drum work. While the attitude-rich funk vibes are still apparent, the tune is turned on its head with some razor sharp DnB basslines and meticulous drum hits.

Icarus creates a laid-back version of the aforementioned track, relying heavily on a soulful groove and some 80’s style synths. Giving “Never” a more mainstream persona, this remix maintains the original appeal while taking on a whole new look and feel.

“Phase to Face,” has a delightfully broken nature, featuring classic DnB style vocals. While one would expect a normal progression of rapid snare and hi hats, they would actually be mistaken. In a fluttering culmination of break-beat drums and wobbling bass, melodic synths draw everything together in something that’s both wildly unexpected, yet incredibly attractive.

This EP is ready and available for you to purchase. We highly recommend you do so.

[Visuals] The Glitch Mob – Becoming Harmonious (feat. Metal Mother)

After their long hiatus, the powerful Los Angeles trio, The Glitch Mob have returned full force with the sophomore release Love Death Immortality EP. In typical The Glitch Mob fashion, enthusiast of representing their music through vivid imagery (well documented in all their live performances), the group brings forth slow and semi-abstract visuals to their single “Becoming Harmonious” featuring the Oakland-based singer Metal Mother. The track oozes with seductive vocals wrapped around a grinding production, layered with darker undertones of aggression, nostalgic to their debut release Drink the Sea yet featuring maturity in sound.

The pioneers in electronic music will be releasing Love Death Immortality tomorrow, Tuesday 2/11 and are set to perform at Coachella, Gov Ball and headlining Ultra Fest this year.
