[Glitch/House] Earth, Wind & Fire – September (Matthew Postrel Remix)

September
Earth, Wind & Fire (Matthew Postrel Remix)

Today, we’ve got a jukey little house tune to perk up those dreadful Tuesdays. At this point in time not much is known about Miami’s 19 year-old Matthew Postrel, and thus far his remix of Earth, Wind & Fire’s timeless track “September” remains only the young producer’s second release through Soundcloud. Matthew Postrel crafts a beat employing the filtered E,W & F samples in perfect form, creating a dancefloor melody that feels like the original, but adds a layer of glittery dance and somewhat of a dubby drum-kick. All of these elements combined had the words “glitch-house” floating inside of my cerebrum, which was the first time these genres have been fused so seamlessly; at least in my tenure inside of the music industry.  We expect to see a number of electro-house DJ’s play this one out this Summer and thought the rest of the Ninja community should be privy to this free download. Look for more from Matthew Postrel in the near future as he continues to perfect his sound.

[NEW] M.I.A. – Bring The Noize

M.I.A.
BRING THE NOIZE

M.I.A. returns to the scene the only way she knows how, with a brash, blaring in-your-face new single, “Bring The Noize.” Paying tribute to the Public Enemy classic, Maya told Zane Lowe of BBC Radio 1 that the single is “coming out at a time where I think in America it’s kinda cool to hear something like this,” likely referencing the recent debacles involving the NSA and Edward Snowden. There’s no word on when M.I.A.’s fourth studio album, Matangi, will finally come out, but it’s pretty clear that she’s getting frustrated with the entire process right now, “It’s just one of those things where I’ve given up at this point. I was literally going to start putting out records from my bedroom. This was my last stab at it– I’m going to hand it in and wait for it to go out the way albums go out. If I didn’t get it out right now, I would’ve definitely exploded.” She also went on to mention that the album had been rejected for being “too positive,” whatever that means. Either way, we hope we get a chance to hear the album in its final form, through whichever delivery method she finally settles on.

[TMN Premiere] Drop City Yacht Club – Crickets (EELEYE Remix)

Drop City Yacht Club
Crickets (EELEYE Remix)

London based producer, EELEYE, an artist for whom we have something of a musical crush on, just sent us his latest track. An atmospheric take on freshly minted hip-hop triumvirate Drop City Yacht Club‘s first single “Crickets”, the beat maestro has our collective attention once again. R&B vocalist du-jour Jeremih – who has been increasingly omnipresent in the electronic scene on the back of recent collaborative live sets performed with Shlohmo – lends his harmonious coo to the track perfectly, and EELEYE has taken wise advantage of it by stripping down the original’s most boisterous points and placing those vocals in the driver’s seat. EELEYE’s remix feels like an errant Summer wind has been blown through every piece of instrumentation on the original, while an added drum kick only supports the airy vibe. This particular track must have looped on our in-house monitors twenty times before we temporarily let down our Ninja-Guard to share it with such a wise and faithful community. Check out EELEYE’s remix of “Crickets” above, watch the official music video for “Crickets” below and as always, let us know how we did.

[Funky] Moby – Natural Blues (TYR Remix)

TYR is no stranger to the task of remixing one of the greats, Moby. He’s already remixed “Honey”, “Flower”, and gained support from Moby on both. This time TYR tackles one of the most iconic tracks in Moby’s arsenal, “Natural Blues”. The approach on this remix is perfect because he enhances all the right parts of the original while still maintaing the natural flow of the song. Put it on repeat and enjoy, cheers.

Make sure if you’re in the Colorado area to check out TYR and Anvil Smith on June 8th at Summit Music Hall.

[Remix EP] Krewella – Play Harder

Krewella recently released this mind-altering Remix EP titled, Play Harder and it’s chock-full of insane tuneage, featuring remixes from Chuckie, Dirtyphonics, KillaGraham, Mutrix, Cash Cash & Dj Kalkutta, Stephen Swartz, Pegboard Nerds, and Jakob Leidholm.

Starting off with Chuckie‘s dirty dutch makeover, transforming “Killin It” into Big Room electro banger firing on all cylinders. Next is KillaGraham, and he throws down a filthy Glitch Hop remix that starts with some heavy guitar mixed with infectious vocals; it’s another winner. Murtix drops a bangin Moombah remix capturing the filthier side of “Killin It” for one of the most unique tracks on the EP. Cash Cash & Dj Kalkutta’s remix has gotten some really good feedback, as well as the Pegboard Nerds remix which was released about a week ago.

Make sure to check out the rest on your own and don’t miss their Drum & Bass single, “Come & Get It”.
