[Music Video] Christine – Drama feat. T La Rock (Official Video)

Music and recap videos have steadily becoming stale in the dance music arena. Despite that, French artist Christine’s music video is anything but stale. The fresh feature for the single “Drama” featuring rap veteran T La Rock is both electrifying and nostalgic.

Although the video takes influenced from classic cop/detective films, the stylized tone of the video is completely new age. The mix goes nicely together, especially in conjunction with the melding of musical tastes, both old and new. We get a bit of the 80’s hip-hop vibe twisted in with the French electro sound. While Christine’s bustling beats are grooving along, your eyes get to enjoy a dancing detective whose moves are quite infectious. You may not bust out some break dance moves, but you surely will have the urge.

TMN Presents:
Hayden James - Larimer Lounge - Denver, CO - 10/29

In a little under three years, Australian wunderkind producer Hayden James has ushered in an entire new wave of listeners into the electronic music arena. When we first heard Hayden James‘ debut single “Permission to Love” on tastemaking imprint Future Classic three years ago, we had a feeling the up ‘n comer was onto something special. [Electronic/Pop] Goldroom – Lying to You (RAC Mix)

Goldroom
Lying To You (RAC Mix)

Josh Legg’s bedroom recording project turned full-fledged live troupe, Goldroom, has been a mainstay for years here at TMN. His brand of syrupy-slick, dancefloor-directed electro-pop has captured the hearts (and ears for that matter) of listeners from a plethora of  genres. Whether it’s the indie archetypes, bubblegum pop consumers, or underground dance fans; Goldroom’s sounds has a resonation that few “dance” acts could dream of achieving. No doubt part of that luster and allure comes from the seemingly endless malleability of a Goldroom tune. Legg’s polished singles can be flipped, chopped and beefed up in so many different directions; and they have been as well. On the heels of a debut long player, West of the West, and accompanying national tour with Autograf (tour dates are listed below), Goldroom’s “Lying To You” has been scooped up by another one of our favorite producers, Andre Allen Anjos -better known to the world simply as RAC.

With similar yet opposing structural aesthetics, RAC remains true to the essence of Goldroom’s original recording, but whereas its counterpart is a slow-burning slice of 80’s nostalgia with a contemporary vocal, Anjos minimalizes his approach even further using a rolling synth punch and flitty pad work to make his mark. We’re big fans of both, but a fresh coat of RAC wax on a tune always stokes our fancy. Listen to RAC’s remix above, and check out the dates for Autograf & Goldroom’s tour below.

[Electronic] Fareoh – Illegal

Fareoh
Illegal

Fareoh always manages to keep his work fresh and exciting. How he does it, we can’t be too sure, but what we can do is appreciate every time he releases a record. His most recent is fabulous, and it’s called “Illegal.”

Let’s face it, every one loves something that is illegal. Now it may not be technically illegal, it can still be out of our reach. Fareoh describes this track as the feeling you get when you find yourself in that situation. We’ve all been there, and we’d have to agree with the sonic representation. Not only do we agree, but we love just what he’s done with “Illegal.” Not only that, but Katelyn Tarver just crushed it with her vocal performance on this single. It’s an all around sweet record. There’s no surprise that Ultra Records got behind this one. Stream or purchase it today!

[Festival Review] CRSSD Epic Weekend Recap

crssd2016_1001_164512-2828_flg

(PC: Felicia Garcia / CRSSD Fest)

San Diego’s Waterfront Park hosted its fourth CRSSD Fest this weekend, a place that’s become home to lovers of electronic music across the entire Southern Californian region. Maintaining a similar aesthetic to the previous CRSSD festivals at the park, the scene was filled with feelings of a tropical escape, an escape that differs only so slightly from that of the city the event is held in, but it’s the difference that gives patrons a feeling that they’ve left home and arrived at a new one. The lineup, as always, was stacked with legends and exciting up and comers alike. TMN had the opportunity to check out the show, and we’ve got a full run-down below.

The fest kicked off its first day with huge names like MK, Justin Martin, Miike Snow, Cashmere Cat, and Bonobo. As per usual, Dirtybird showed up in big numbers, and Justin Martin’s set and Shiba San’s set were ones to remember. There’s always something so special about the Dirtybird crowd. Knowing that all of your lives were probably touched at one point by Shiba’s track “OKAY” is a strong bond that not many other labels can achieve, and Shiba’s set was filled with all the depth and bass one would imagine. Justin Martin’s headlining set drew crowds that were worthy of his talent, and the set was an hour and a half of pure bliss. And while Justin Martin was taking everyone on a journey at one side of the festival, house music legend Marc Kinchen (aka MK) was giving everyone an education on the other side of the fest. Pioneering house music with tracks like “Always” from the 90s, MK has his finger on the pulse of house music now more than ever. We were ecstatic to see him headlining, getting all of the glory that he deserves.

[Electronic] Hotel Garuda – Fixed On You (Feat. Violet Days)

HOTEL GARUDA
Fixed On You (Feat. Violet Days)

We’ve enjoyed the absolute privilege of watching Hotel Garuda rise to prominence ever since their first edit of Disclosure and MNEK’s “White Noise”, and now their second original release, supplemented with a brilliant feature from Violet Days, is finally here. “Fixed On You” is a textbook demonstration of the duo’s skillful blend of indie dance, house, and pop and centers around a universal message of longing for love that definitely affects more of us than we care to admit.

When we come alive / Let me keep a piece of you / When we say goodbye / Cause I´m fixed on you

That’s part of the appeal of Hotel Garuda. Their choices of remixes in the past reflect a history of emotional emphasis, and they’ve created their own voice now on this fresh and compelling original. With an abundance of quality house and pop music being created more often than ever, it should come as no surprise that you can count on Hotel Garuda always being in the conversation. If you missed their debut original “Smoke Signals”, be sure to catch up HERE.
