[Resident Artist of the Month] Martin Garrix

Bassjackers
Crackin' (Martin Garrix Edit)

With a new start to the year, we’re kicking off our 2014 Residency program with a bang, welcoming in one of the hottest names in music right now. For the past year, no matter what club, festival, podcast or mix you’d come across, you’re almost certain to hear one song in particular. You know which one we’re talking about. “Animals,” exploded onto the scene, dropping by way of Spinnin’ Records.

Shrouded in mystery, the teaser that was released had no name associated with it. People curiously wrote up blog posts with incorrect artists being credited, chomping at the bit to finally find out who was behind that behemoth of a track. When the artist was finally announced, belonging to 17 year old Martin Garrix, people were instant ennamoured with this Netherlands born youngster.

Garrix has since released numerous chart-topping tracks, all of which have maintained his polished style that so many have come to know and love. Now that everyone is a little more familiar with this rising star, we’re offering up the opportunity to get to know him even better.

All this month we’ll be featuring content on Martin Garrix, offering up a deeper look at the man behind the animal mask. Make sure to check back in on the regular to see what we have in store.

[Get Crunk] Clayton’s Friday Party Playlist (Vol 87)

Hey hey, ninjas! It’s that time of the week again. You know that time. It’s that time where your back starts aching, your wrists hurt from typing (at least ours do), and your eyes are burning from gazing at a computer screen (once again, these are all things we’re experiencing).

Regardless of how exhausted you are, how difficult of a week it’s been, or how ready you are to go home and pass out, we encourage you to press play and think twice.

[Mashup] Treezus – Love Lockdown x Electric Feel (Kanye West x SeventhWonder)

’Treezus
Kanye West X SevnthWonder’

Mashups are a difficult art to master. The idea of blending two ostensibly compatible songs together seems simple enough in theory, but rarely does it ever work in execution. Often times they can sound forced or lazily mixed, leading to something that ends up being less than the sum of its parts. A truly great mashup should feel like a completely original composition on its own, something that sounds exceptional independently from its source material. There are very few producers who can accomplish this, but we may have to consider adding Treezus to that short list. While not much is known about the young producer, this mashup between TMN mainstays Kanye West and SevnthWonder certainly caught my attention rather easily. “Love Lockdown” has never been one of my favorite entries in Kanye’s vast library, but once mixed with “Electric Feel” it transforms from a sparse, melancholic love song, into a wondrous electronic joyride. After you stream/download the track above, feel free to checkout out some of Treezus’ other mashups as well, which you can listen to below or find on his official SoundCloud page.

[Mashup] The Hood Internet – It’s Still About Falling (Haim x Robotaki)

The Hood Internet
It's Still About Falling (Haim x Robotaki)

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen The Hood Internet on these pages, but the mashup maestros are looking to kick off 2014 the proper way with their brand new mashup of Haim and Robotaki. The Chicago based production duo are well known for their crazy combinations, but who in a million years could’ve ever seen this pairing working? “Falling”–one of our favorite tracks of 2013–was already pretty rhythmic on its own, but after mixing in the funkadelic electronic synths of Robotaki’s “It’s Still About You,” it becomes a whole different animal. Check out the spectacular mashup above, and don’t forget to treat yourself with a free download.
