[MP3 Playlist] The Trap Dojo #23

I apologize for the delay with this weeks dojo, but we’re coming at you with so many huge hits this week that i’m sure it will make up for it. Jumping right into it, Team Bayside High takes on the task of remixing a truly classic dance hit, “Make You Sweat” better known as “Everybody Dance Now”. They do all the right things to this remix, with several different trap builds and drops, emphasizing the famous lyrics or their own take on the melody. Next up is the masked man himself, UZ, remixing Birdy Nam Nam. You may have seen this posted earlier this week as part of the Birdy Nam Nam Remix EP. This track is incredibly funky with great drumwork throughout. Butch Clancy continues his Trap Tuesday series with this weeks “Dopeboy”, my favorite trap track of his so far. With huge bass and bells, this is real gangster trap shit to rattle the trunk as you’re driving through the hood. Heroes X Villains, a name who we see far too little of teases us with the full preview of their remix of “Jah No Partial”. Even though they don’t release as frequently as others, every track is fire, and this track proves they are worth the wait. A couple weeks ago, I told you to keep an eye on Snails in 2013, and so far he has lived up to that hype, releasing this massive heavy hitter, as well as a killer dubstep track this week alone. Trap Dojo regular Ookay is back, having just signed to Borgore’s label. “Hey Freak is filled with blazing high synths and some serious footwork set to make you kick up a storm. RaceCarBed just released a new EP this week filled with deep basslines, and oozing with purped out swag. Click the “Buy” link to get the whole EP. Grandtheft, who you probably recognize from his insane collaboration with Diplo kills this remix of “Tuna Melt” that will have you saying “Damn son, where’d you find this sandwich?”. While Dubstep is still not an old genre by any means, there are still a number of tracks that you can consider classics, one of which is “Sweet Shop” by Doctor P. While its always tough to remix a classic, Big Makk keeps it fairly simple, adding some drums to the notoriously high pitched drop, while chopping up the synths only enough to really trap it out, before going really hard in the second half.

A few tracks later, which are all great, but I wont mention because this post is already getting out of hand, comes the cool down section of our dojo training. I never thought I would be putting Justin Beiber on the dojo, but the way this is chopped and screwed into a Future Trill ballad had me playing this one on repeat. Lastly, Huglife seems to have created a subgenre of his own: Indie-Trap. This track shows what i really love about Huglife, whether he’s producing big-room bangers, or remixing indie coffee shop tracks into some chill love trap, its always above par.

[MP3 Playlist] Indie Dojo (January 2013 Round #4)

In the life of a true music lover, a silent world is a boring world. Which could possibly explain why a lot of us have a playlist for everything. Working out, road trips, getting down, getting ready for bed, getting up in the morning, studying, eating, partying, beaching, relaxing, chillaxin, waiting, working.  The possibilities of excuses to have music as a constant in our day to day living are endless and the indie dojo is just another way to fill up any left over empty space.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #21

We’re well into the new year now, about the time where it stops feeling weird writing the number ’13 at the end of the date. Another reason for feeling at ease with the calendar ticking over is the impressive amount of chill tracks that have already begun floating around in 2013. We have assembled a nice line-up for you to cement just how good this year is going to be!

If you’re still not convinced, our track of the week, ‘Only Flaw’, will no doubt turn you around. Having joined Facebook only a few days ago, and with this being the sole piece on show on Soundcloud, there is not much to tell about Wayward besides the UK origins. What is clear from this mellow masterpiece though is that this is definitely a name to watch closely in the weeks to come. Now last week we left you with a stellar array of jazz-infused beats to enjoy as the playlist concluded, so we pick up where we left off with another smooth instrumental courtesy of German beatmaker FloFilz, who has captured all the magic of a smokey lounge atmosphere into 2 minutes of pure delight, which will have you desperately craving more for sure. Speaking of not being able to get enough, the tropical vibes flow once again as we have the pleasure of mentioning the name Goldroom with this feature of Mexican producer Bufi’s official remix for ‘Sweetness Alive’. The combination of guitar and piano is the perfect touch to make this an absolute jam. But our favourite name to drop of late can be none other than Sizzlebird, whose work-rate continues to astound with his ability to slip into the dojo on a regular basis. This week he presented his stunning chillstep entry for the Rameses B remix competition, which is a winner in our books regardless of the result. Finally, the announcement of a new Justin Timberlake album has caused quite the buzz of late, so our next feature revisits some classic JT with a new spin thanks to a brilliant cover from UK future bass group DrDr. There are no words for this one, the gorgeous vocals will say everything.

And now you understand the excitement we have for what this year will bring in the world of chill. Just listen for yourself. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #20

The Chill Dojo has hit another milestone with edition number 20! So we’re celebrating, or rather vegging out with an equal number of stellar tracks to wind down your weekend and keep things as easy as can be.

Bit Funk kicks off our proceedings with the standout for this playlist in ‘The Long Road Ahead’. With the year just beginning, 2013 certainly does have a long way to go, but if mellow masterpieces like this are the soundtrack to our days then it will certainly be one to look forward to. The vibes keep flowing with our next mix courtesy of Melbourne duo QvsQ, who take the haunting yet chilled original from London Grammar and add a touch of progressive magic to perfectly complement those enchanting vocals. We continue on to some new stuff from familiar names in Sizzlebird and Cross Them Out, who continue to do what they do best in providing absolutely gorgeous sounds. We then revisit an earlier post from the week covering another dojo favourite in Follow Me, with another smooth rework of a classic R&B jam that will quickly have you under its spell. Our playlist concludes with a special treat of 5 of the best laid-back beats from UK producer Vanilla’s latest album of instrumentals, For What It’s Worth. The jazzy touch make these a pure easy-listening delight.

There is definitely plenty to enjoy in this jam-packed milestone installment, so vibe along in whatever way you love most. Peace out!

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #19

Well it’s a new year and hopefully we have all well and truly recovered from the revels of the celebrations that have taken place over the last week. For those still in need of some downtime or just wanting to kick 2013 off the right way, the Chill Dojo makes its triumphant return for the first Sunday of the year. There are plenty of treasures still to find from 2012, and this will likely be the case for many weeks to come, but rest-assured that the new year will deliver a stack of more incredible tunage our way in no time at all. With new names arising and stellar vibes aplenty, this is certainly the time for amazing discoveries.

And speaking of hidden gems, our first track for the year is none other than a remix of one of the breakout songs of 2012 in Seven Lions’ ‘Days to Come’. A collaboration from trio of friends, Slander, 7DeadlySynths, and DireWolfe, this stellar trapstyle take on the original substitutes the heavy bass hits for hi-hats and mellow synths which work just magically with the euphoric vocals of Fiora. Now prepared to get your funk on as we move on to our next few features, the first two being some absolute jams courtesy of Dutch beat-maker Moods, who is a strong prediction to be a name that will continue to pop up in 2013, and we have a good track record with these things. The other is an old-school jazz delight from a fellow Dutch producer in Demouche, whose entire Food For Happiness EP is filled with vintage treats like this and should definitely be checked out. Like, right now. ‘Youth’ has been the inspiration for many chill mixes in 2012, and another one just recently discovered is thanks to German producer Alle Farben, crafting a gentle and hypnotic bassline that perfectly caresses the acoustics of the original and creates vibes that are on another level.  You’ll also find a familiar name in WISKIM with his first release for the new year that bodes much promise for good things for the months to come.

So there you have it, a strong start that makes 2013 seem brighter already. Surely things will only continue to grow from all the wonderful sounds of the previous year. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #18

The end of the year is a time when it’s common practice to make ourselves promises of drastic changes that are going to happen in the year ahead. To all these people with wild resolutions we offer but one bit of advice, chill out. Nothing will magically happen overnight when the calendar clicks over, so don’t sweat it. Just take 2013 as it comes, and do yourself a favor and keep it as easygoing as possible. We’ll do our best to help out along the way.

So before all the partying begins, take this time out at the end of 2012 to reflect on the year that was and the memories that were made. And there is no better tune to match this pensive state than the latest from Prototyperaptor, who tones things down from his usual hard-hitting style to deliver a beautiful piece of downtempo magic that feels like the score to an ending credits sequence. A forewarning on this one, it will evoke some serious nostalgia so prepare yourself for the feels. Next up is a track that is sure to put everyone in a feel-good mood, with the trapstyle edit of ‘Easy’ courtesy of Bring the Noise. It featured a few days ago here on TMN, but the uplifting nature of this release was a must for this final Chill Dojo for the year. Also fitting for this final playlist is another amazing tune from standout performer Sizzlebird, who this time tries his hand at remixing Zedd’s ‘Clarity’ into a chill masterpiece that is a definite standout amongst the saturation of attempts from other artists. And while we’re talking about the highlights of 2012, you can’t go passed Major Lazer’s ‘Get Free’ as one of the chill tracks of the year. We’ve featured quite a few remixes since the dojo’s inception, and the recent rework from Swiss producers Adriatique breathes new life into the popular hit which is perfect to play out as we welcome the start of a new year. Keep on vibing though because the next song by Canada’s Wet Paint is an absolute mellow jam, and that is all that needs to be said. Finally, chill DnB has been one of the more popular requests we’ve received across the weeks, so we conclude the final edition of 2012 with five dreamlike tunes to carry you off into 2013.

And that officially wraps up the Chill Dojo for 2012. We hope that we’ve managed to bring much joy and relaxation to the latter part of your year, and you’ll continue to vibe with us through the good times ahead! Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #16

Sometimes humanity can shock us with news that shakes the very foundations of our belief in our fellow person. Times like these are difficult no doubt, and there’s not much that can be said that can make sense of it in any way. But it’s these moments where more than ever, we need a reminder that the world is still a beautiful place, and as much as there is potential for evil, there is so much more good happening everyday that goes unheard. So here’s to all that is good in life, and all those that work towards making the world a better place.

One such example of this beauty is a remix of The xx by a mysterious newcomer to the producing game, Whomi. Not much information exists about this artist, with only one other song on Souncloud which featured in our playlist two weeks ago. But if the vibes in these debut tracks are anything to go by, it’s a name that you will definitely see in dojos to come. Following this is another remix of The xx, courtesy of John Talabot and Pional, who morph the original into a hypnotic house track clocking in at over 8 minutes. The Chill Dojo has seen plenty of remixes of the UK group, but it’s no surprise given the style of their latest album ‘Coexist’, and its potential for mellow reworks. A name which would be far from expected in this playlist is California’s infectious beatmaker TJR, and with a remix of Queen no less! It’s definitely a quirky take on ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, but there is no doubting the chilled vibes it delivers. Revisiting a post from earlier in the week, it was impossible to look past another artist from the Golden State in Broke for Free. This is one of those mellow jams that allow you to lose yourself for a few minutes and just enjoy the sweetness your ears consume. If you’re a regular to our fine establishment, you’ll also find some names you’ve recently grown familiar with in Sizzlebird and WiSkim, who again gift us with some quality free tracks. And finally, who better to feature in our reggae track of the week than the new prince of Rasta, Snoop Lion, who when combined with the production mastery of Major Lazer, is a recipe for pure unfiltered relaxation.

Apologies for the delay on the dojo this week due to some technical hiccups. Hopefully we are still in time to start your week off right. Make it one where you take the initiative to spread the love where you can! Peace out (and emphasis on the peace).
