[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #15

This week’s Chill Dojo is dedicated to some much-needed recovery. We’ve all been in that situation where by the time you have mustered the strength to claw out of bed, half your Sunday has already slipped by unknowingly. Rather than regret the hours lost, relax into this week’s playlist and make the rest of your day twice as good as before.

To assist with your Sunday recuperation, we’ve enlisted the help of Bondax and their latest single which will be released early next year. We continue to marvel at the maturity of the sounds being put out by teenage producers in electronic music today, and this song is a textbook example of this kind of prodigious talent. Pierce Fulton has been known to dabble in chill productions in between his signature electro house style, and when he comes out with beautiful tunes like his remix of ‘In No Time’, we definitely encourage him to show more of his mellow side. Taking the calming vocals from the alternative rock band Mutemath and layering it over a magical backdrop of enchanting pads and beats, this one is sure to get a ton of replay for the rest of the day. Vocal remakes are definitely the flavour of the week for Chill Dojo #15, with a stunning rework of ‘Everything to Me’ courtesy of DJ Fresh Direct, who definitely lives up to his name with the catchiness of the vibe-inducing beats at play here. Next up are two very different takes on Rihanna, first a haunting chillstep cover from Cry Wolf, and then a gorgeous downtempo remix from Them Jeans. We’re also revisiting a soulful deep house jam from TMN favorite Follow Me which was featured a few weeks ago.  On a final note, there’s plenty of chillstep sprinkled across this edition courtesy of a recent mixtape from Chill Dojo frequenter Cross Them Out.

And that is our heartfelt attempt at making today and this coming week as relaxed as possible. Until next time. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #14

Finally, the great milestone has arrived with instalment #14 of The Chill Dojo. What, 14 isn’t a milestone number you say? Well there needs to be some excuse for this super-sized edition of 20 tracks, other than the fact that it’s been an awesome week for chill music. Since December has finally rolled around once again, we’ll call it getting into the festive spirit. This time of the year is usually the most stressful with everything going on, so the more calming tunes we can provide the better.

And there’s no better person to turn to for a gentle dose of repose than Goldroom, who this week released a new single capturing a moment of summer paradise like only he knows how. Everything about this song is classic Goldroom, with beautiful melodies, perfect flow and entrancing female vocals. What more needs to be said? Another dojo favorite returns this week in Satin Jackets, releasing an older gem for free that is just so easy to vibe to. The sound here is incredibly versatile, suitable for long drives, dancefloor groovin’ or a classy cafe atmosphere. We first debuted some of Sizzlebird’s production a few weeks back, and told you he would be a recurring name in playlists to come. True to our word and his amazing talent he is back with another gorgeous ambient treat to fall in love with. UK group Rudimental have been blowing up since the release of ‘Not Giving In’, and in celebration gave away their collaboration with US rapper Angel Haze. You won’t typically see much hip hop in the chill dojo as it’s well covered in other areas of the site, but the production is at the forefront of this track and is so tight that it was too good to pass up. Other names to watch in this playlist include Atlantic Connection, who brings some chill dnb and downtempo goodness, as well as three servings of funk courtesy of the latest free EP from French Kiwi Juice.

You can tell it’s going to be a good week to come with so much amazing music to share. Start it off right by listening, downloading and spreading those vibes. Peace out.

When searching for music to add to the playlist each week, some would say there’s a point when a track becomes too dancey to be suitable for the Chill Dojo. Well we don’t care too much for rules, and potential candidates are judged by one criteria and one only, vibes.

Why the prelude? Because we kick things off this week with a tune that will have you moving as if you were still running off the buzz from Saturday night. Montreal’s Kaytranada remixes a house classic in ‘Lady’, adding an infectious groove that is funky beyond control. If that’s all a bit too much to handle on your Sunday, then our second track will tone things down with a beautiful downtempo remix of a Seven Lions hit courtesy of Washington producer, Lindsay Lowend. It’s been a few weeks since our last dose of that smooth Shook sound, but he’s back again with a slow jazzy piece of magic that’s all a part of his usual charm. Another classic receives a modern twist with German producer Vaguesh taking on a Grammy-winning 80’s hit, ‘Bette Davis Eyes’, adding some acoustic riffage and an extra oomph to the beat. Other goodies in this playlist include some helpings of chill trap, DnB from London’s Blu Mar Ten, and deep house vibes flowing from a couple of Bit Funk mixes. Something for everyone no doubt. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #12

There’s so much great music to write about this week so I’ll cut short the deliberation and get straight into the explanation so you can kickstart your Sunday relaxation (or for those studying for finals, your procrastination).

Our first two tracks serve up some vocal delights from two artists hailing from Melbourne, Australia. “Weaving” is the second single from Jess Harlen’s sophomore album, Park Yard Slang, and it is nothing short of addicting. Those smooth beats and soulful voice instigate some serious replay, and it only gets better with every listen. The music video is also worth a watch, featuring some stunning shots of the urban New York environment. You should recall the sound of Chela from Goldroom’s “Fifteen” (considering we only post a different remix of it every second week), and “Full Moon” allows her gorgeous voice to shine at the forefront of this chill disco jam. More vocal goodness comes courtesy of Washington band, Brett, with Nacey’s remix providing some amazing vibes through that charming xylophone, an instrument which producers definitely need to utilise more, just like the cowbell. JNL is a favorite of the chill dojo, and released another infectiously smooth jam this week which is an absolute no brainer to download. Next up is an ambient experience from Belgian beatmakers, MonkeyRobot, who create an entracingly beautiful spacial vibe to give you that special drifting feeling. The astral ambience continues with Colorado native, Hollidayrain, delving outside his usual progressive style to deliver his first experiment into the area of chill. Your dose of chillstep this week is thanks to UK producer, Sizzlebird, who will definitely be a name that will continue to show up in the weeks to come given the standard of these tracks. Finally, our last feature this week pays tribute to the passing of renowned British house producer, Martin Dawson. We chose a track that was the most appropriately titled for the chill dojo, with an appropriately mellow remix from fellow Brit, Jay Shepheard. We honour his memory as we enjoy this stellar tune.

With all the formalities out the way, as always, play, download, chill. Peace out!

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #11

This week marks a significant moment in the history of the world, a point in time which has the potential to change the future of humanity as we know it. There was much hype, speculation and anticipation, but the results have finally come in and we can all rejoice. Yes that’s right, it’s time for the 11th installment of The Chill Dojo with another 15 tracks of listening bliss.

We start things off with a song that can only be described as chill music in its purest form. 17 year-old producer Le Nonsense creates a perfect tempo, groove and vibe in this nu-disco masterpiece which is so intelligently crafted for someone so young. Next up is a downtempo electronic jam from Californian duo Traveler which was brought to my attention by one of our readers. The dojo is all about spreading amazing tunes, so we are always open to suggestions to ensure that gems like this don’t go unnoticed.  Things slow down a tad with a new one from Maths Time Joy and a mellow mix of RAC’s “Hollywood” courtesy of Chris Hurst, who is only sixteen. With talented youngsters like this already producing things of this quality, the future sure looks bright for chill music. Goldroom’s “Fifteen” is certainly no stranger to the remix treatment, and though there have already been a few that have featured in dojos past, there is definitely no hesitation in posting this effort from Final DJs, which will carry you through a state of dreamlike euphoria for nearly 8 minutes. Other notable mentions this week include a downtempo interpretation of Above and Beyond’s trance hit “You Got to Go” from the latest EP by Lion González, and a trap remix from none other than Flosstradamus, who transforms the heavy hitting Sub Focus original into a relaxing head-bopper. Finally, this week’s cheeky reggae addition sees Danish producer Keyzy take on “Paradise”, which could uncover a whole new potential for the future direction of Coldplay. Probably not, but it’s a fun track nonetheless!

As always, enjoy the playlist, snag those free downloads, continue to spread the music and hit us up with any feedback. It’s always appreciated! Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #10

If this week has taught us anything, it’s that nature can reveal its two contrasting sides of pure beauty and sheer force at whim. It is the same with music. While there is electronic music capable of launching a crowd of thousands into the air to the beat of the bass, there are melodies capable of making thousands of individuals fall silent as they listen in awe of the sounds flowing from their speakers. This is the focus of The Chill Dojo, and this week we celebrate the milestone of #10 with a super-sized playlist of 20 amazing tracks for your listening pleasure.

And on this momentous occasion, the prestigious award for track of the week comes from dubstep producer Haze who brings us a glorious chillstep remix of ‘Big Love’. With haunting female vocals, dramatic drum patterns and of course, gentle doses of wub, this song is nothing less than enchanting. Sticking to the same genre for the time being, our second track from Draper was featured a little earlier in the week, but gorgeous melodic dubstep like this was too good to pass up for the dojo. We move on to more uplifting music now with remixes courtesy of Sunday favourites, Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver, RAC, and Goldroom. There’s not much I need to say about these tracks that would differ from the quality you’ve already come to expect from these artists, so you know they are all a sure-fire download. Something that does come out of left field though is the downtempo masterpiece from trance legends Above & Beyond, who this week released ‘Tokyo’ as a free download to mark the achievement of reaching over 100,000 fans on Facebook, which truly is an amazing feat. Chill drum and bass is something that we definitely don’t feature enough in the dojo, so this week’s playlist offers a double helping from Atlantic Connection and WiSkiM, who definitely fill the void for what we’ve been lacking. Finally, I can’t help but sneak in a cheeky reggae tune at the end of the dojo when I find one, so this week’s guilty pleasure is this fun take on Rihanna’s ‘You Da One’ by Jr Blender. Yeah it’s hella cheesy, but don’t fight it if you like it. Either way it’ll be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. You can thank me later.

Speaking of gratitude, if you thought the larger-than-normal playlist was the special gift I alluded to last week, then think again. We meant it when we said we have been inundated with amazing chill music of late, so we’re releasing the current backlog of 15 free downloads we have as a bonus zip to celebrate dojo #10. That is our thanks to you for the wonderful reception we’ve received from our Sunday serving of chill. Hope you’ve enjoyed it so far and will keep checking in to see what is on show each week. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #9

The hardest part about assembling the Chill Dojo each week isn’t finding amazing music to share, it’s deciding which are the best tracks to feature amidst the mountain of choice we are provided. Given this difficulty, this edition sees another playlist that is 15 tunes strong, which might just become the norm if this trend continues.

It’s always interesting to see the variation in genres when it comes to the top picks of the week, and deep house vibes are definitely the go for this instalment. First up is an incredibly mellow mix from German producer Larse, taking the already phenominal original from Feed Me and Crystal Fighters and adding his own touch with a bassline that is so perfect in its minimal approach. This replay button is getting a good workout on this one to say the least. Our second contender hails from a powerhouse label in deep house, French Express, with Chris Malinchak delivering a piece of musical heaven whose title is the exact summary of my feelings towards it, just so damn good. JNLheadlined the first ever Chill Dojo, and for whatever unfathomable reason I have somehow slept on this seriously funky jam until now. Needless to say I am kicking myself, because everyone needs this in their life. While we’ve jumped on the funk train for the time being, we may as well continue the theme with a gem from Norwegian discodudes Lemâitre, who deliver something very reminiscent of Madeon, a clear compliment in its own right. Things then slow down a touch to conclude the standouts for this week, UK producer Rostik crafting a deeply emotional experience with “Willow Trees,” and Frenchman Evil Needle gifting us a slice of serenity in “Falling Leaves,” which we featured just a few days ago.

Of course there is so much more that can be said about the playlist that lies beneath, but it’s probably best explained by simply hitting that play button and letting the music tell the rest. Snag the free downloads as well, and stay tuned for a special surprise coming your way next week to mark the occasion of dojo number 10!
