[Hip-Hop] Denzel Curry – Ice Age (Smoko Ono Remix)

DENZEL CURRY
ICE AGE (SMOKO ONO REMIX)

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Smoko Ono over the last year, it’s that the Chitown beatmaker can virtually do no wrong. For his latest exploit, Smoko grabs hold of Denzel Curry‘s “Ice Age” and uses his wizardry behind the boards to cool things down well below sub-zero temperatures. Steeped in bubbling, hazy production, the droning vocals come to life in this remake, which makes for a much louder, yet relaxing listen. This remix will be featured on Smoko’s upcoming Slackin N Makin Vol 1 EP, which is set to drop in early November.

[Melodic House] Felix Jaehn feat. Chris Meid – One Last Time (Remix)

Felix Jaehn feat. Chris Meid
One Last Time Remix

Respected German producer Felix Jaehn just released this juicy Jaymes Young remix titled “One Last Time”. Also helped produce the track was London-based producer Chris Meid, who contributed to perfect this chill house goodness. Together they completely flipped the mood of the Jaymes Young song and turned it into this beachy and chill house tune, while keeping his vocals as the spotlight. The tropical synths and the sustained vocals really give it feel-good vibes. It is unlike any cliche house music you’ve listened to because of the slower paced beat and wave-like background noises.

This gem goes to showcase how talented these artists are for their ability to cross sub-genres while staying true to their music. Felix Jaehn is definitely one to watch, as he’s soon becoming one of the front runners of his genre and style of music.

[Hip-Hop] Nas – Life’s a Bitch (feat. AZ) (Free n Losh Remix)

Nas
Life's A Bitch feat. AZ (Free n Losh Remix)

Successfully remixing a song from one of the greatest rap albums of all time is no easy task, but Free n Losh prove it is possible with their latest take on Nas‘s classic “Life’s a Bitch.” The talented Canadian production duo replace the original instrumental with a vibrant bass-line, smooth piano and various soul samples. During the legendary chorus, Free n Losh layer a high-pitched portamento synth reminiscent of the G-Funk era. As a result, the song ends up sounding a bit like if the Illmatic anthem had west-coast production, with a splash of young Kanye West‘s soul sample skills. Train – Hey Soul Sister (SMLE Remix) [TMN PREMIERE]

Train
Hey Soul Sister (SMLE Remix)

Here at TMN, we are passionate about sharing the music that brings our ears happiness with our viewers. Just the same, we are devoted to exposing those shrouded artists with unforeseen music that is just waiting to be heard. These hidden treasures are what always seem to quench our music thirst.

As of recent SMLE made their way onto the music map, and you better believe we didn’t fail to notice. After catching our attention with their cover of Michael Buble’s rendition of Nina Simone’s original “Feeling Good,” we have kept our eyes glued for new releases.

As music bloggers, we are lucky enough to be able to watch artists develop in both their success and their sound. From a more personal point-of-view, and having been introduced to SMLE’s work since day uno, this brand new release of theirs is quite a treat for myself as it captures their growth. Taking on Train’s pop hit, “Hey Soul Sister,” SMLE feeds your ears illuminating melodies from start to end.

As you may remember from TMN’s previous coverage of SMLE, the guys like to incorporate live instrumentals into their productions. Throughout the remix you’ll notice colorful guitar lines in addition to the glittering synths that pulls the whole piece together to become something that is truly one of its own kind.
