Attempting to cover a Daft Punk classic is always risky and ballsy, but here we have Spazzkid‘s cover of “Something About Us” and he definitely killed it, keep it original and unique. The LA producer slows it down with this one, mixing tropical synths with electronic beats, and incorporating them nicely with the original vocal samples, building this awesome cover from scratch. It’s truly amazing how this cover differs from the Daft Punk classic in terms of distinctiveness and musical style. The breakdown towards the end comes in with a bang, sealing the deal with that melodic solo.

The key to a cover is to be creative and different but at the same time maintain credibility to the original, and Spazzkid manages to do just that. If you’re into instrumental electronica, go check out Spazzkid’s other stuff. They’re one of a kind and will leave you in awe.

How does a child of the 90’s even begin to describe Nate Dogg‘s legacy? Voice of a generation, national treasure, crooner, OG, regulator–these are just a few of many words used to describe Nate and the contributions he and his silky voice gave to hip-hop and the music community as a whole. He is sorely missed every day, however his name will never be forgotten as long as lads like Prince Club continue to create art. The Montreal duo have been hard at work over the years trying to reinvent the idea of club music, and I must say they are not far off. I brought you guys to 4 AM just a few days ago, so now let’s move the clock forward a couple hours. On their “6 AM Bake Mix”, Prince Club revamps the late Nate’s song “Gangsta Walk” with several vocal anecdotes sprinkled throughout, mostly from his work on “The Next Episode”. It’s not what you’d expect at all for late night club sounds, but it works surprisingly well and is an excellent tribute to boot.

If you’re in the 20-25 year old range, there’s a strong possibility you heard “This Plane” at every party you went to as a teenager. Mixtape Wiz was a force to be reckoned with, and his big single still has staying power today, even more so now that nosleep decided to take it for a spin. The Pittsburgh producer is well-known for his unique hip-hop remixes, however he flipped the script on this one and tried to recreate the Bay Area style of hip-hop. If you ever imagined Wiz & E-40 or Mac Dre on a track, this might be the closest you will ever get. We personally can’t get enough of it, so I hope you guys enjoy it as well!

And now, for a song fifteen years in the making. If you remember the rivalry between Britney and Christina back in the day, you’d remember how significant this song was in 90’s pop culture. Clearly Loveless is on the same page as us, as the Norwegian duo brings the karaoke classic into 2014 as a sexy deep house cut. Heavy on the vibes and light on the chords, this guy is a perfect addition to any upbeat workout/party playlist. We’ve posted a barnyard full of house music selections this weekend, but here’s hoping this piques your interest enough to hit play.

For all the credit we’ve given Australian music recently, it’s unfair for New Zealand not to share the spotlight. After all, they have given us Kimbra and Lorde. After this post, you can go ahead and add Maya Payne to that list of Kiwi starlets as well. “Fragile” is her debut single and it’s getting its fair share of remix work; however MCHNCL’s effort truly showcases Payne’s talent behind stellar production by her fellow Kiwi. This seventeen year old is going places real soon and we can’t be more stoked for her! Hopefully New Zealand’s best kept secret will make a splash across the world.

It’s a well-known fact that Galantis is a blogger’s dream come true. When Christian Karlsson of Miike Snow and Linus Eklow (Style Of Eye) teamed up to start making progressive house we knew we were in for something special; we just couldn’t imagine how great it would actually be. They have absolutely taken the Internet by storm and now seem to building up even more momentum through their touring. Last week, they let out a remix EP and while each track is great in its own right, we think we found the crown jewel. Elephante has rapidly become one of the most well-respected creators in the electro house field, however he flexes his melodic capabilities on this one as the end result is a stunning, practically cinematic, progressive house edit of Galantis’ “Help”.

It really says a lot about an artist’s abilities as not only a creator but an icon when remixes of your material number in the thousands. We’d have to talk to Soundcloud about the actual numbers, but it’s safe to say Ellie Goulding, Avicii, and Kanye West are the most remixed artists ever. Producers from all walks of life and musical backgrounds love to put their own signature stylings on these musicians’ works and no two tracks ever sound the same. When Kanye released the broody “Love Lockdown,” too many producers took it in the wrong direction and added more upbeat drumwork or something in that vein. Polo understands just how to operate on a song like this. Another Kiwi on this blogathon, he makes his TMN debut today with his ultimate sadboi rendition and even throws a few “Heartless” samples in here and there.
