Vanesssa Elisha – Under My Skin [TMN PREMIERE]

Vanessa Elisha
Under My Skin (Prod By. LOXE)

If you’ve been losing sleep waiting for the latest release from Vanessa Elisha, then you’re in luck this morning as she finally returns with her first single of 2018. Although it’s been awhile since we’ve heard from the Australian songstress, she’s certainly been keeping busy in the meantime, collaborating with the likes of XO, Falcons, Ekali and XXYYXX.

Produced by LOXE, “Under My Skin” represents a bit of a shift in sonic direction for the crooner. Rather than the atmospheric slowjams that we’re used to, Vanessa opts for a more vibrant and groovy sound on this tune, reminiscent of the pop stylings of NAO. While she might claim that she “can’t find the words to say,” Vanessa’s lyrics remain as poignant as ever, creating an infectious hook that will definitely get under your skin (in a good way, we promise). Check out the track above, and if you like what you hear make sure to follow Vanessa on Spotify and SoundCloud!

[Indie/R&B] Kai Straw – GUN LP

You know when you’ve been waiting for something and it finally comes, but then it’s a bit lackluster? That’s not what happened with Kai Straw‘s LP, GUN. We were waiting, yes, but upon its arrival today we weren’t disappointed in any way. From start to finish this project takes Kai’s artistry to new heights.

Released on his own label Tenth Gate Records, GUN is a beautiful mixture of indie, pop, R&B, soul, hip-hop and EDM. It sounds like it’s all over the place, but Kai carefully crafts each track and weaves them together into one project seamlessly. It’s like watching a movie, one that’s easy to absorb and dynamic – flooding your senses with lush tones and melodies that you will never forget. It’s not easy to pick a favorite, but up on in our tops are “They Sent You” and “Jesse James.” Have a listen for yourself and make sure to get a copy of this, or add it to your streaming library from Kai’s website.

Sit back and let MTMBO sooth your soul with his original “Mottingham” on RAGS. This dreamy record from one of London’s most promising artists is about as serene as it gets. With music things are so subjective, but this is one of those songs that everybody can like.

“Mottingham” implores a soft instrumental and ethereal vocals to keep up an ambient tone. It’s soulful sound feels as though it is cleansing you with each frequency that passes through your ears. Beautiful doesn’t begin to describe this one. It’s something you just have to experience for yourself.

All Over The Place

If you’re into dance music, then the name Nadia Ali should instantly catch your eye. She’s collaborated on big hits, but is now kicking things up in a different direction with a new project. We’re proud to present HYLLS and the premiere of her debut single “All Over The Place.”

HYLLS is not going to be exactly what you’re used to from Nadia, otherwise this would be released under that project. No, HYLLS is Nadia’s exploration of sound, taking her to new territories like “All Over The Place” did. With this debut single she cooked up a soulful pop jam that we couldn’t pass up. It’s exactly something you’d expect to hear a million times on the radio, but not mind the constant airplay of it. HYLLS is refreshing, smooth and captivating. “All Over The Place” is just step one in this new direction. Enjoy the first listen and stay tuned for more from HYLLS!

Episode #96: Saturation & Soul

Soundcloud || Spotify Playlist  || BFF.fm Archive & Tracklist

This week’s episode kicked off with a chilled out soul / jazz vibe that carried through out, across genres. Although there were notable Friday releases from some veterans, Brockhampton‘s Saturation III was easily the project I was the most excited for. Their third album of the year delivered possibly their most ambitious and interesting yet. I matched its title by playing 4 tracks from Saturation III. The second half of the show delved into some jazzy, off-kilter house from Frits Wentink, Ben Hauke, Kerem Akdag, O’Flynn and more. I had to close out the show with a behemoth new Nicolas Jaar track from the deluxe edition of Sirens. – ash.
