[Future] Matt DiMona – Touch

Touch
red wine on your lips from the corner store…

With a slew of popular remixes under his belt already, Matt DiMona has kept himself busy while at USC. As the creator of several tracks totaling over 5 million plays, it goes without saying that DiMona is popular with more than just his peers on campus. Emboldened by the success of remakes like “90210” and “Devil And the Deep Blue Sea”, DiMona released his first original work last October. The sultry “I Just Want You” as it was titled, was merely a taste of what was to come from the young producer. Continue reading

[R&B/Soul] Xavier White X Paul Couture – Bad Blood

Xavier White X Paul Couture
Bad Blood

Lush Records just came out with with a huge new single from Xavier White and Paul Couture. Their work on “Bad Blood” is just what the crossover R&B style needs at this moment in time. Nothing is watered down, and we get a real work of art from some talented individuals.

“Bad Blood” meets in the middle of a crossroad between R&B, soul and trap. Instead of watering down each element and creating something that doesn’t identify as unique, Xavier and Paul worked to have their single stand out. From the get-go, the piano chords grab your attention, and things only get more enticing as the song moves forward. Paul’s work on the instrumental is as good as it gets. That leaves us with Xavier’s vocal. The same can be said for his performance. His voice encroaches on perfection for this type of song, and he even flexes his pipes towards the end showing just where he can take things. “Bad Blood” is the one song you need today. Great thing is, it’s out now as a free download.

[Album Review] Sango & Dave B – Tomorrow

For the readers out there who regularly tune in to our podcast, Music Ninja Radio, it is common knowledge that Kai Wright (aka Sango) is one of our most played and beloved producers. Since first bursting onto the scene via his remix album More Balloons and solidifying the fanbase with his debut LP North – an album that I still refer to as the greatest collection of music since its Summer 2013 release – Sango has truly spearheaded a sonic movement. Working with the influential Soulection crew, as well as the Grand Rapids/Seattle collective Astronaut Gang (AGO), Sango has pushed the boundaries of experimental trap & instrumental hip-hop well past would-be contemporaries everywhere.

Settling nicely into the swing of summer, Amsterdam-based DJ Full Crate has returned with another jam. With tracks like “Special” and the remix to Disclosure’s “White Noise”, Full Crate’s appeal is easily justifiable. Coupled with friend and fellow local Mar, the catalog of impressive, highly regarded tracks increases even further – highlighted by “Nobody Else” and “Man x Woman”. Continue reading

[Soul] Shy Girls – I Am Only A Man

Shy Girls
I Am Only A Man

While living in Portland, the unofficial American home of counterculture, Daniel Vidmar made his big splash in 2013. How so? In countering the counterculture of course. While his Portland contemporaries rose to fame on the back of a very particular type of sound – bands like The Decemberists, Blitzen Trapper, The Dandy Warhols, She & Him, Starfucker, Ages & Ages, Langhorne Slim, and The Shins – Vidmar took to his bedroom and set out to break the trend. Under the stage name of Shy Girls, he has crafted an alternative R&B sound that remains a novelty, despite the oversaturated landscape of today. Continue reading

VOKES (ft. Nevve) – Backroad [TMN PREMIERE]

VOKES
Backroad (ft. Nevve)

There’s nothing quite like taking a long drive on a warm summer night, letting your hand flow up and down along with the current outside your window as your navigate through wide open straights and windy curves. And, if you’re anything like us, you’re always looking for laidback jams to help soundtrack that scene. Luckily for us all, LA-based VOKES is dropping the fourth and final track from his debut EP, Fractalism, and it’s absolutely perfect for those late-night excursions.

This delightful collaboration with fellow Angelino Nevve deserves your attention this summer for a multitude of reasons. Musically, the track brings in lush future-style synths that beckon back on VOKES upbringing in Malibu, California, adding to the complex personality of the track. Coupled with those synths are a prominent, buzzy bassline, carefully placed percussion, and a jazzy guitar breakdown, all of which provide the perfect backdrop for the interchanging verses from both VOKES and Nevve.

Before you jump in the car to enjoy this little beauty out on the road, head over and follow VOKES on Facebook so you can keep up with future releases.
