[Future/Soul] Golden Vessel – Borrowed Time Feat. Tiana Khasi

Golden Vessel
Borrowed Time Feat. Tiana Khasi

Earlier this week we were once again graced with a surprising new artist from down under. Australia’s own Golden Vessel teamed up with fellow Brisbane resident Tiana Khasi to create the emotional new track, “Borrowed Time”. Golden Vessel, at age 17, has shown promise beyond his years as a producer with remix productions of popular songs by Odesza and Panama.

As a downtempo/future/R&B production, Golden Vessel’s newest track perfectly blends previous works with the enchanting sounds of Tiana Khasi. In fact, the soulful vocals on this production vaguely recall another artist who saw a meteoric rise to success recently, Sinead Harnett. With such a powerful song being released by these two young up and comers, it won’t be long before we’ll be seeing their names everywhere.

[Indie Electronic] Chet Faker – Bend

Chet Faker
Bend

Since releasing his debut album last year, Chet Faker has been touring pretty much non-stop so it’s little surprise that we haven’t heard much new music from him. Hopefully that’s going to change soon but, to hold fans over, the Australian artist let loose some unreleased material today from the Built on Glass sessions that must’ve just barely missed the cut for the album. “Bend” carries the same synth-laden backdrop and soulful vocals as Chet’s debut but has a bluesy guitar riff at its chorus that’s not quite like anything we’ve heard from him before. It’s an intoxicating and experimental tune that captures Faker’s distinct style and broad range of influences. Groove above–the first 1000 downloads will be free so grab one while supplies last!

[Soul] Jojee – I Don’t Give A

Jojee
I Don't Give A
New York-based singer Jojee released her first solo appearance song last week. It follows up a feature with Savoy and Sound Remedy on ‘Leaving You‘ that was released back in April. ‘I Don’t Give A’ takes on the simple yet profound model with its clean structure. Jojee will not be denied when accompanied by her pal Mickey Valen. The vocals dress his slink production in a seductive outfit that feels very comfortable. It’s an outfit capable of changing the mood quickly. These two will be teaming up for an album coming out soon.

[Indie/Soul] R.LUM.R – Be Honest (Prod. By Ethnikids)

R.LUM.R
Be Honest

When you realize an act has other projects, it’s a glorious day. Although we premiered R.LUM.R in the past, his direct connection as a production member of Ethnikids, who produced “Be Honest,” was unknown to us. Orlando’s music man could slip that passed us, but couldn’t slip a track under our noses. When we heard “Be Honest,” its freeing innocence captivated our ears. A slow soulful jam is what we get with this self-released single. The vocal performance is truly magnificent, as he maneuvers between a soft side, and one where he can stretch his pipes a bit. With the weekend here, and the big chilling underway, we’ve had this one on repeat for a while now. It’s your turn to do the same, and if you’d like to purchase yourself a copy, you can do so on iTunes.

[Future R&B] Vanessa Elisha – Down For This (Prod. B.Lewis)

Vanessa Elisha
Down For This (Prod. by B.Lewis)

After first appearing on our radar last year, Aussie songstress Vanessa Elisha has made some tremendous strides in her music, working with some incredible talent along the way, including XXYYXX, salute and J-Louis. It’s clear those experiences have all helped shape the budding singer’s developing sound, leading up to her latest effort “Down For This.” Premiered earlier today via Complex, “Down For This” is the lead single from Vanessa’s upcoming Good Ones EP and also happens to be her first release of 2015.

“Down For This” is a song about devotion, finding the lovely vocalist crooning “Got me I’m sinking/I would go down with this ship” over a serene instrumental before bursting into a bubbly chorus that should cause anybody with a heartbeat to break out into dance. It makes for quite the contrast, but it definitely works in this song’s favor. Stream/download the track above, and be on the lookout for Vanessa’s Good Ones EP, set to drop later this year.

[Hip-Hop] 119 Productions & THE FDC – THE C.S.S. (Chicago Sight N’ Sound)

Chicago Sight N’ Sound is an ambitious endeavor between 119 Productions & The FDC meant to showcase the city’s best and brightest up-and-comers. Plenty of familiar faces are scattered throughout the two-part project, including Mick Jenkins, Lucki Eck$, Saba, The O’My’s, Kami De Chukwu, Jean Deaux, Ibn Inglor, Smoko Ono, Jarred AG, Dally Auston, Martin $ky and many more. The C.S.S. takes advantage of some of these more well established names to introduce listeners to some newer talent they may have never even heard of, which is essentially is the true goal of this undertaking. In fact, some of the project’s best moments come from artists who may have never crossed your radar before.

Along with the mixtapes which make up the “Sound” portion of the project, there’s also a visual aspect which can be found on 119’s official website. After checking out the full scope of The C.S.S, it’s pretty clear that the teams over at 119 Productions and The FDC poured their heart and soul into making this project possible, and it’s not a stretch to say this is one of the most important projects to come out of the Chi all year, if only to show that the city can really unite together as one.

We’ve selected a few of our favorites from both mixtapes below, but we encourage you to check them out in their entirety over at the Chicago Sight N’ Sound SoundCloud page.

[NEW] Mr. Carmack & Kehlani – All In

Mr. Carmack
All In (with Kehlani)

In the latest installment of Yours Truly‘s always-dope Songs from Scratch series, an ongoing project backed by Adidas Originals that fuels artist collaboration, Oakland-bred vocalist/songwriter Kehlani has teamed up with the pioneering Mr. Carmack for a slow-burning jam. Mr. Carmack, whose Red EP is around the corner, has been an omnipresent force in music for the last couple years as a humble, albeit somewhat reluctant, representation of the modern-day renaissance producer. Meanwhile, Kehlani’s debut album, which perfectly captures her unique approach to songwriting and distinct voice, has made her a well-deserving favorite among tastemakers.

“All In,” born out of two artists’ exhaustion from their respective grinds, features a markedly chilled-out Carmack with downtempo percussion, oscillating synths and gorgeous piano. Kehlani’s voice matches the backdrop flawlessly, but her lyrics are what truly shed light on the track’s significance for both artists. A fascinating contrast emerges from the combination that reflects the wear and tear that come with success and the perseverance required to keep going. It’s a deeply emotional, yet valiant, tune that surely marks a point in time of the careers of two promising talents.

If you’re looking for some mid-week inspiration, we’d definitely recommend checking out the behind-the-scenes video below and the full story behind “All In” here.
