[Future R&B] Vinnie ft. Duncan – OD

VINNIE
OD Ft Duncan (Original Mix)

We already showed this Colorado collaboration some love in last week’s Sunday Night Soul, but we felt like “OD” deserved a post on its own.

Coming out a few days ago, this infectious and energetic future R&B tune not only showcases Vinnie’s ability to aptly produce multiple types of genres, but it also provides a glimpse into the stunning vocals from up-and-coming singer/songwriter Duncan. Seemingly made for each other, the soaring synths and playful bassline pair perfectly with the fluctuating vocal range. The tune doesn’t take itself too seriously, allowing the listener to grin and have some fun with it, which only adds to the entire experience.

This tune can be purchased here, with the majority of the proceeds going to benefit childhood education around the world. There’s also a chance to win a very limited edition “OD” tee as well, which carries the cover art across the chest. When asked why they decided to partner up with this cause, the two had this to say:

We were so fortunate to have been provided with the opportunity of having great teachers, schools, and parents, without them we wouldn’t be able to follow our passion for music.

Children are our future, anything we can do to help them succeed should be a top priority for our society!

[R&B] SPZRKT & Sango – Hours Spent Loving You

Although our weekly playlist is already out, we’d like to add a little more soul to your Sunday night. Sango & SPZRKT seem to bring out the best qualities of one another, often making their finest music when paired together. With that reasoning in mind, it’s a wonder why this EP wasn’t a reality sooner. The 7 track surprise release, titled Hours Spent Loving You, is “a summation of how relationships are viewed both earthly and heavenly.” Given that premise, it should be pretty clear from the start that isn’t your typical R&B project. Highs and lows are experienced throughout, but the ride is consistently smooth. Stream the entire EP below, and make sure to download a copy for yourself as well.

2015 International Women’s Day Playlist

In honor of International Women’s Day, we’ve spent the afternoon compiling tunes from some of our favorite musical women. We looked into all of our usual genres – indie rock, hip hop, RnB, pop – and did our best to shine some light on the industry’s best and brightest.

The lines blur from genre to genre at times, and the definition of a “female musician” does as well. Some bands have male members. Some women are covering a song from a male artist. At the end of the day though, we tried our best to showcase acts that have a heavy female influence in their art.

So, sit back, relax, and take some time to appreciate some of the best work from women musicians around the globe.

[Soul-Hop] William Bolton – Dream At Night (Feat. Dillon Ashton)

William Bolton
Dream At Night (ft. Dillon Ashton)

The young and intelligent William Bolton has many skills. You’ll have to dig into his Soundcloud to experience the records he produced himself – look for Times New Roman – but his new single ‘Dream At Night’ properly showcases his polished vocals. The relaxing production on this one is handled by Kaui Beats, an understated producer from NYC, and his soulful samples compliment the distinct vocal patterns of Bolton very well. Through his hometown connections in Detroit, Willy B adds Dillon Ashton on a verse to really mop the place up. This record will find it’s long-term home on his upcoming project, Love Supreme, sure to be available soon. Stay tapped into this guy, there are many tricks up his sleeve.

DiRTY RADiO – Can’t Let Go [TMN PREMIERE]

DiRTY RADiO
Can't Let Go (Beat by: Calvin Harris)

Aww yeah, ninjas. It’s the only time of the week known for having a sexual innuendo attached to it. Whether it was meant to or not, Hump Day make most of us giggle, contemplating what type of adult activities we’re going to get into later. Well, this Hump Day, all you need to focus on is a romantic meal, some scented candles, and maybe some fresh rose pedals. As far as the music goes, DiRTY RADiO has you more than covered with their new tune, “Can’t Let Go.”

Set to the backdrop of Calvin Harris’ “Love Souvenir,” (before his captain-of-industry-edm days), this tune has all the 70’s love-infused funk one would hope for. The bassline provides the perfect backbone for the sensual, longing harmonies, fully enveloping us for a solid four minutes. We can all breathe a collective “thank you” to this Vancouver based trio for that, tipping our collective hats with a wink and smile.

When asked about using Harris’ tune, the boys had this to say:

Before Calvin Harris was a massive EDM producer, he was making the dopest slow jam beats no one was listening to. “Love Souvenir” from his 2007 album “I Created Disco” is a perfect example. This has always been a favorite instrumental of ours and even though it came out a while back, we couldn’t resist writing on top of it.
