The UK’s publicly owned BBC have announced the lineup for their choice of who’s going to be big and have full playlist support from them in 2012. Being the most listened to radio station and having huge online and TV presence – this is quite a big deal for the winner.
The lineup is really interesting, from folk to dubstep and also holding some familiar names… [cough] Skrillex [cough]… with others still awaiting the limelight. The rules sate that the winner can’t of had a UK top 20 before November and also they can’t be previously famous – eg. X-factor. Previous winners of the award include Ellie Goulding, Adele, 50cent and Jessie J, all of whom have achieved success with the award helping them along the way. The BBC have only missed the mark a couple of times – little boots & Mika were 2 artists who for me were very over hyped and very over rated.

Formed in Brooklyn in 2010, the five piece group recently landed NME’s top 50 artists of 2011 (no mean feat). Self titling their music as “weird pop” – it’s catchy and leaves you feeling a bit more hip!

Brutally in your face lyrics, the Harlem girl really made her mark with the track ‘212’. Spawning from the same Manhatten based LaGuardia High School as Al Pacino and Nicki Minaj she’s now signed to XL Records after making appearances on the 1Love video series and Major Lazer EP Lazers Never Die. Having won NME’s coolest person of the year 2011 and also having her next release produced with Florence + The Machine producer Paul Epworth – 2012 is looking bright for miss banks

I first saw Lianne on the BBC’s ‘Later with Jools Holland’ and her performance was simple – yet stunning. Think of her like a quieter Janelle Monae and let her voice gently bring some sunshine into your day. The 22 year-old has been making music since she 7 and having previously performed backing vocals for Paloma Faith, she’s seems set to make her own path in the music industry.

Sitting somewhere between Bombay Bicycle Club, Weezer and Metronomy and hotly tipped in 2011’s SXSW festival, Dry The River describe their music as “folky gospel music played by a post-punk band”. Frontman Peter Liddle formed the band in Norway and moved to London in 2010 in set for a huge UK tour in the 2011 spring. Personally I can’t stop playing this song – it’s so bloody epic!

For me, Flux came on the scene with his DJ Fresh remix waaaaaay back in 2010 so this nomination is a bit late! His 2011 year was amazing and saw the British producer move from a one off top remix, to world touring DJ – working closely with fellow Circus Records label artists. We like Flux, we like his music. We like his face. We like Flux.

After 5 grammy nominations – Skrillex had a mamouth year in 2011. His evolution of the dubstep sound is still a constant hot topic in the dubstep forums and Skrilex’s sound has the power to both divide and unite wobbling bass fans. Whether you love or hate it, it’s impossible not to be impressed by what the 23 year old producer has managed to achieve with his releases, record label and tour. Personally, I love how Skrillex’s sound just makes people completely go nuts and is unashamedly OTT. This track ‘Cinema’ is still my favourite from the LA producer, so crank it and loose yourself for a moment:

Before I say anything I want to tell you guys that we are very excited for this new step for the site. We have always wanted to print out shirts and are very committed to value and feel of the shirt. You are the reason we are doing this, we have kickass fans!
These designs are NOT FINAL, they are merely tentative designs that were provided to us and we are going to have to make the choice of what shirt we would like to print out first.
Design A:
I love the concept of this shirt, it still needs some work as I do not like the 80’s font. It has so much aggression but it still has the abstract vintage look that anyone could wear. I want to get your feedback to see what would you like done to it or would you wear it as is?
Design B:
This might be the second design we print out if we sell a lot of the Design A shirts. I love this shirt because it has OUR BELOVED LOGO! super kickass with a lot of attitude yet looks very clean and it perhaps will appeal more to the hardcore ninja fans.

This was going to be a Thanksgiving post but due to the massive amount of work to put this list together, things got delayed a bit. Here at the music ninja we don’t just post about the awesome songs we come across every day, we are also here to make your job as music listeners a little easier.

The Music Ninja review:
I must admit, I knew I’d love this DVD before i even watched it. As a big Kings Of Leon fan, their early years have always fascinated me. Coming from a strong evangelical background, regularly told that rock music was the devils music and traveling round with their preacher father – the band should never have become the forefront of rock and roll.
As it happens, they did… and this documentary gives you a real insight into their on going stuggle with their roots and how it fits into their new life of sex, drugs and rock & roll.
Slight word of warning – subtitles are a common need in the movie as rednecks are especially hard to understand – especially to an englishman!
This is a must for any KOL fan so pick up the dvd from their website or even better, enter our competition above to win your own copy!
I am speechless. The entire season of Breaking Bad has been a roller coaster ride of the unexpected. While I wont give any type of spoilers to the people that are still catching up from tonight’s episode 13, aside from the ending on a refreshing twist, the song for its ending credits was a surprising delight.
The Breaking Bad Season 4 finale ending song was nothing other than the song “Black” by the collaborative album Rome of Italian composer Daniele Luppi and Danger Mouse. The song features the smokey vocals Norah Jones with soft and dark melodies, yet with a very vivid lyrically imagery. A perfect song for a perfect ending.

Though some of Skrillex‘ work does sound like just another remix of his own originals, Skrillex has once again broken through to the video game side to produce a track for the soundtrack of EA Games latest frirst-person shooter ‘Syndicate’. The game looks like a combination of Fear and Max Payne and well, that is not a bad combination to rip off.
I hate to give the game any more publicity but any producer that makes sure you are rocking to some of the best dubstep producer while blowing the heads of bad guys deserves some kudos. Check out the trailer for the game Syndicate above.
