Promises Ltd. – American Eyes (Gilligan Moss Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Promises Ltd.
American Eyes (Gilligan Moss Remix)

For those who are unfamiliar with Promises Ltd., the project was created out of the union between Chrome Sparks and Charlie Brand of Miniature Tigers. The duo dropped their debut EP a couple of months ago and since then they’ve been pushing out remixes from various producers. Today, we premiere one to you from the Chicago duo Gilligan Moss.

“American Eyes” is the single Gilligan Moss got their hands on and we have to say they did a great job with it. Obviously, as we wouldn’t be premiering it otherwise! For just under five minutes, the duo keep ears at attention with a subtle composition that packs more punch than you’d expect. It’s one of those slow-burns that satisfies through and through from the very start to the very end. Rhythms are this song’s strong suit, as the interplay between the percussion and instruments make for a complex listen. It feels simple, but there’s so much going on it gives us the desire to dive deeper over and over again. Shout out to the Majestic Casual crew for putting this one out, as well as the other dope remixes!

Beach Season – Pink Room [TMN Premiere]

Everyone (except Californians) know that the weather changes throughout the year from season to season. It’s not always that we get to feel warmth and sunshine, but there’s one duo who doesn’t care what time of year it is. That duo is Beach Season. They’re bringing the Summer vibes no matter when, and right now they’ve brought their new single “Pink Room” into the dojo for a Music Ninja Premiere.

These two Canadians are no joke and neither is “Pink Room.” A cool blend of styles from pop, to house and indie-dance make up the song’s composition. Vocals have been a strong-suit in their work and with their growing catalog, we’re sure to get more and more of that; however, with the instrumental of “Pink Room” the guys pump up the pace a bit from their usual sound to give listeners something more vibrant and danceable.

This isn’t the only song Beach Season have coming this month, as they are gearing up for the release of their EP, Libra Year, on November 11th through Universal Music. In the meantime, enjoy “Pink Room” through Soundcloud, Spotify, or grab a copy on iTunes. Don’t forget to follow the duo on their Facebook or Twitter either! Gotta be ready to jump on the EP the moment it drops.

This was a song that we dug up from the archives and continued to develop. It started off as a slow jam that’s half the tempo of the version now and through out the last six months we had different writers and friends put their own spin on it. It’s been through a lot of changes and I think that it’s an accurate representation of our development in the past year.

[House] Betoko – Crazy Jack [TMN Premiere]

Betoko
Crazy Jack (Original Mix)

Fridays and house music were meant for each other from the jump. Which is why any time we can round up a darkly excellent slice of after-hours club music, we get a little bit giddy. London based, Mexcian born producer Betoko has long been an artist with whom this writer has been enamored. That admiration was forged by many a late night, hearing countless Betoko tunes rinsed by some of the world’s most forward thinking house & techno DJ’s. Betoko’s amassed an enormous base of proper house-heads behind polished releases on the likes of Get Physical, Bunny Tiger, Off, Nurvous & Katermukke, and his latest original record aims to move another wave of listeners.

“Crazy Jack”, our track under study today, sees Betoko return to Hedonism Music as part of the excellent Amsterdam Essentials Vol. 1 compilation. An outstandingly groovy club burner fueled by concrete snares, murky bass swells and arpeggiated progressions, “Crazy Jack” is a testament to Betoko’s arcing range of emotive productions, and a tune we’re massively excited to be premiering in the process. Stream “Crazy Jack” above.

Feder feat. Alex Aiono – Lordly (Wielki Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Paris’ own Wielki just dropped a huge one. Like, literally it’s just coming to the world now through this premiere. It’s always a privilege to partner up with an amazing talent, pushing a quality record. Wielki is accustomed to creating great work, but the official remix of “Lordly” by Feder is a real treat.

The seven minute remix is as good as it is lengthy. There is no moment when you lose the feeling of entertainment it brings you from the very start. It’s deep, driving grooves are inescapably infectious, making this one especially potent in a club atmosphere. Wielki manages to recycle several parts of the original, while also keeping the song fresh from its first counterpart. “Lordly” goes from a dark, poppy sensation to a thrilling techno delicacy.

L’ENFANT – Change [TMN Premiere + Q&A]

L ENFANT
Change

Live music is taking over the electronic world. One of the best labels pushing this crossover is Boogie Angst. One of their upcoming projects comes from L’ENFANT, whose EP fear of… is an absolutely stunning sonic experience. We can’t give you the full EP, but we can give you a first listen to the single “Change” as well as some insight into the project.

After listening through L’ENFANT’s EP, we decided to have a virtual chat with the brothers in the dojo. They dive into their EP, which is due out in a few weeks, as well as their live show, which is integral to their project as a whole. While reading through, enjoy the premiere of “Change.” The groovy, chill single will quickly have you on the edge of your seat and waiting for the full EP to drop. Don’t worry, it will be hear soon enough!

TMN: November sees you make with your debut EP for Boogie Angst. Talk us through the concept behind the EP and why you chose to return to the label for this one.

L: As we did before, we worked together with Studio Met/Zonder to create a concept that covers the music in combination with the artwork, titles etc. As we musically moved into another direction than we used to, we created a concept with Met/Zonder which fits our new sound and makes the EP one whole thing.

The title of this 7 track EP is: ’fear of…’ and is about daily fears every grown up has. Each track represents a single fear, and it all comes together with EP title and track title: Fear of change etc. These 7 different ‘fears’ each get it’s own artwork and video that will appear on social media, Youtube/Vimeo and live during our shows.

We gladly return to Boogie Angst with this EP! Besides of the other nice music they release, they provide great services such as studio time in Kraak & Smaak’s headquarters and lots of support for which we are very thankful!

TMN: Change marks the first single from the EP. What can you tell us about the inspiration behind the track and why you chose to lead with it?

L: After we finished working on our ‘Sit Back/Sell Your Soul’ EP, that got released early 2016 through Boogie Angst, we decided to approach this EP other than we did before. Since we both got completely different backgrounds, we decided to use that as a base.

Thomas graduated cum laude at the Conservatory as a jazz guitarist in 2015, and has been writing (mostly) jazz compositions before he started producing electronic music. Oscar is producing for several years now, and has been focusing on sound design in electronic music.

This combination is easily recognised in the ‘new’ sound, and Change marks the first track we made with this sound, and strongly influenced the rest of the EP. In addition to this new approach, we also started recording vocals with Suzanne Kipping, whom appears on 2 tracks.

TMN: As well as your studio output the project also involves a full seven piece live band. How was the live element of the project developed and do you feel the ‘live’ element is one that is missing elsewhere in music right now?

We started working on the live band around 2 years ago. Because the music then was more funk based, we had a completely different setup than we have nowadays. We kept shaping the live set for 2 years, and we’re really happy with it’s current state. Lately Suzanne Kipping (who also appears on Change) joined our live band, and now it consists of Guitar, Bass, Drums, 2x Vocals, Percussion and Synths / Effects.

The ‘live’ element is a really important thing to us, and sure is a thing that we miss a lot right now. Although more and more artists are making a move into creating a live set, which is great. For us, creating a live performance is as important as creating the music itself.
