[Multi-Genre] Major Lazer & Bad Royale – My Number

Every time we post a single, we label the song with the genre that pertains to it. Sometimes a song dips into a couple styles, usually by mixing up the drum pattern. The thing with Major Lazer and Bad Royale‘s “My Number” is that they move things around so much, that we had to label it as multi-genre.

“My Number” kicks things off with a reggae sound that will get even the soberest of listeners to roll up and spark up the ganja. From their they move into the drop where we are met with a top-shelf drop that really echoes sounds from Bad Royale’s catalog. Two more styles come to the fold of this composition, but we’re going to leave those as surprises for you. We would say because that’s half the excitement, but no matter if you know what’s coming or not, the excitement is all the same. “My Number” is a special tune that you CANNOT sleep on. Stream it, buy it; share it with your friends.

[Multi-Genre] Helena Legend – No Explanations Pt. 1 EP

We’re just going to come right out and say it, Helena Legend absolutely smashed this EP. It’s a new direction for the producer who steps away from her house roots to bring something completely different. She keeps up the energy and emotion that is packed in her works, but translates the feelings into future/bass territories.

No Explanations is being labeled as part one, so we can expect there will be another part coming in the future, hopefully the near future. This EP starts off with the best single, “RU Feeling It” featuring LYRE, but don’t let that stop you from checking out the full EP as the other two tracks are incredible. It just so happens that this one is just a bit more awesome, but that’s just our taste too. So, you’ll have to pick for yourself. If you’re not all about the bass, then the futuristic “Illusion” may be more your taste. It’s a bit lighter and airy. As far as vibes go, this has got all you need. Lastly, Helena Legend closes things out with Blake Rose on the trap single “Getaway.” Although it’s trap, it’s on the softer side of the genre.

All in all, No Explanations is not only a cool excursion away from Helena’s usual sound, but it is a success. Ultra Records put this one out, so it is currently available on digital stores. It’s a must have. In conclusion, we’re sending Helena Legend a virtual hug on her not only taking a leap of faith into new territories, but for putting together a hell of a project in the process.

[Trap] Owkey – Know Myself (feat. Ashdown)

Owkey
Know Myself (ft. Ashdown)

Heroic Recordings put out a gem several days ago from the Copenhagen creator Owkey, who collaborated with London’s Ashdown. “Know Myself” is the tune. The unique take on the trap sound is a fresh experience for your ears. We love it and we’re sure you will too.

“Know Myself” has that laidback, R&B meets future mood, but the sound closely aligns with dance music’s trap style. When you think trap vocal, you think of an emcee or a robust vocal that is aimed at a festival crowd. With “Know Myself” we get a subtly powerful vocal that matches the intimacy of Owkey’s instrumental. There’s nothing over the top about this one, it’s completely tasteful and 100% dope. Owkey and Ashdown put together a memorable tune that we’ll be jamming to into the new year. We’ve already grabbed the free download and added it to our playlists and you should too.
