Niteppl – Whispers [TMN VIDEO PREMIERE]

Niteppl
Whispers

A few months back we premiered Niteppl‘s “Shadows”, a dark, electro-pop jam off their sophomore album Nu Flesh. The San Francisco duo dropped the project shortly after and it felt like the perfect elaboration on that sound keeping things hazy, yet synth-filled and addicting, with an embedded narrative through out. “Whispers,” the follow-up single, has been making its rounds among tastemakers and radio stations in the Bay Area and we’re excited to have the premiere of its official video–the first ever visuals from Niteppl.

Matching the 80s-coated vibe of the project, the video begins in a 1982 San Francisco motel with its protagonists, a couple in the midst of a forlorn love affair. As the song’s potency emerges so does the emotional intensity and storyline of the video with a slew of cocaine-and-romance induced ups and downs. Director Eugene S.B. does a fantastic job of building the narrative and maintaining a consistent aesthetic through out as the couple try to escape the grip of what appears to be either a pimp or ex-lover. It’s a great accompaniment to what’s become a breakout song for Niteppl adding a new depth that, in many ways, changes the way we hear the track.

[Electronic] Porter Robinson Feat. Urban Cone – Lionhearted (Point Point Remix)

It’s that dreaded day of the week again, dare we say it, Monday. But, why not make the best of this Monday and forget about the awful stigma that haunts it? We know that may seem slightly impossible, after all, it commences yet another hectic work week, but maybe it’s time to embrace these “horrid” Mondays. So what is a reliable tactic to transform those morning commutes that feel like you’re driving towards your deathbed into a commute towards your birthday party? Music.

Only a few days ago, Point Point hit the public with a new one, a remix of Porter Robinson’s “Lionhearted” featuring the vocals of Urban Cone. Only seconds after pressing play, smiles started to appear on our faces. Steering in a different direction from their usual steamy sound with drawn-out synths, which you may have heard in their ‘Contrastive Focus Reduplication‘ EP or their recent remix of Gallant’sWeight In Gold,” they speed up the tempo with a brighter tone.

More affective than a cup of coffee with an extra shot of espresso, Point Point’s remix stimulates the senses with a hair-raising melody and enlivening rhythm. But, to be completely honest, it’s pretty difficult to describe just how incredible the production and synth work is; take our word for it. Only way you’re going to find out is giving this one a listen. Be careful though, it may cause uncontrollable dancing and smiling.

[Music Video] MOONZz – SATISFY

MOONZz is keeping everyone’s satisfaction going from her first release, aptly coined “SATISFY.” She released this record, produced by Cozyra, early in September, and now we have the music video to augment the project. They go with a vintage style for the video that juxtaposes a dating game show in black and white with MOONZz serenading the viewers under a single sparkling light. It’s a super fun video to watch, and as we stated in our previous post about the song, there’s absolutely nothing to dislike about the record. By the end of the video, MOONZz starts to raise some hell, which she already has begun to do in the music scene where she’s began her takeover.

[NSFW] Autumn In June – HEROin KIDZ [TMN Video Premiere]

Autumn In June
HEROin KIDZ

In the short time we’ve had to become acquainted with South Central LA’s preeminent voice of indie-pop Autumn In June, it’s safe to say we’ve become slightly enamored with just about every facet of his fascinating essence. First landing with us back in April on our premiere of layered indie-pop single “Hours”, and again in July on our always stellar Indie Dojo playlist with today’s focus, “HEROin Kidz”; Autumn In June’s unique and street-wise take on pop structuring has stirred up something beautiful within us. This morning, the young artist got with yours truly at TMN to premiere his latest stunning visual pairing to the aforementioned “HEROin Kidz”, which like its aural counterpart features some rather heavy content. Depicted in a shapeshifting and haunting neon violet and crimson ambience, Autumn In June’s video cuts between intimate shots of downcast drug and alcohol use through multiple subjects including powerful vocal highlights of the artist himself; which much like AIJ’s music offers a beautiful and rather jovial lens to consume some rather brooding composition.

If you’re in the workplace today, you might want to save Autumn In June’s “HEROin Kidz” for home as it features a dose of nudity and some graphic drug use, but we trust you and think you’ll be quite glad you did. Stream the entire music video before anyone else below.

[Video] Grease (The Movie) – One That I Want (Xavier Dunn Cover)

Grease
One That I Want (Xavier Dunn Cover)

If you’re of the persuasion that none of the incredible singalongs from 1978 mega-musical Grease could be brought up to a beautiful, contemporary pace, well; we’re here to change that. After the success of his adaptation of A$AP Rocky’s “Fuckin Problems” and Rae Sremmurd’s “No Type”, unsigned Australian producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Xavier Dunn has stepped up yet again, this time reviving that classic change-of-heart closing scene between John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, “One That I Want” from the aforementioned Grease. Adding orchestral arrangements and slowing the cadence to a breezy stride for his own adaptation, Dunn once again impresses with a vocal-oriented and highly emotive rendition.

But, we don’t just have the tune for you today, as we’ve accompanied Xavier Dunn’s wistful cover with the visual piece as well. A modern twist on an old classic, Dunn’s music video splices together videos of protests and rallies from the 60’s up to the present to solidify his message of non-discriminatory love. With all of the recent breakthroughs we’ve had towards marriage and love equality in the U.S., there still lies a fight waged by millions around the world for basic human rights, and Xavier Dunn’s message couldn’t have come at a more serendipitous time. Stream Xavier Dunn’s “One That I Want” cover above or indulge another one of your senses and check out the official music video below. Happy Friday Ninjas, and peace & love.

[Video] Digital Farm Animals – True

Back in April we had a chance to feature a piece of the club-ready sound evolution of London based electronic savant Digital Farm Animals on his single “True”, and judging from our review, we’ve been completely enamored with the savvy producer’s directional shift. Today, Digital Farm Animals has released a debut visual piece in the form of “True”‘s official music video, and its visual aesthetic works just brilliantly with his synthetic sonority. From the video’s protagonists pulling heists in pig masks (see DFA’s above logo) to the actual levity portrayed through wolf-cops; there’s a certain playfulness underlying a very serious tonality that echoes DFA’s simple, yet layered and complex instrumentation. Nick Gale’s DFA project has certainly come a long way since its earliest rumblings, and seeing everything come full circle and begin to take shape in the form of a complete concept is like a music writer’s dream. But, as we can’t do the video justice with words, we’ll go ahead and leave it right here for our Ninjas to enjoy.
