People On The Street (Preview) | Exploited
With a solid head of steam built up behind his bouncy brand of deep-house and tech music, U.K. based DJ and producer Copy Paste Soul has placed another foot in an appropriate direction with a two song extended-play, People on the Streets, which was imprinted on one of the hottest dance labels in the game, Exploited. With a flock of A-List taste-making support from the likes of Skream, Disclosure, Tensnake and Annie Mac already behind his sound, Copy Paste Soul looks to make a metaphorical leap from revered underground producer to mainstream buzz-artist on account of an all-encompassing pair of house tunes.
Title track “People on the Street” slices open the EP wonderfully, combining a tight four-to-the-floor snare, deep arpeggiated synth play and a hollow, bassy groove entrancing its listener in a haze of solid dance instrumentation. Further establishing that deep sound are some increasingly deep-house typified pitched down vocals and a myriad of wood-block and cowbell stabs, letting you know that this is house and to get those dang glutes shaking. Rounding out People on the Street is “Fly Away”- a tune in slight contrast to its other half, but equally as dancy. Whereas the titular track would be more suited for a peak hour underground house time slot in a DJ set, “Fly Away” feels much more accessible as a late night, after-party, winding it all down type of a cut. “Fly Away” build on itself towards a cresting climax, using it’s ethereal pads and dreamy chord progression to create the only words that explained Copy Paste Soul’s production in this writer’s mind: Progressive-Deep-House.
Exploited continues to release only mature and expertly produced dance music, and Copy Paste Soul more than atones for the deserved fan base behind them. While only two tracks in lenght, People on the Street should give its listener a very good idea of what to expect from the U.K.’er and was a lovely listen all twenty times through today.
