"Elite Beat Agent"
There was a lot on January 20th that Mord Fustang enjoyed. Tuesday marked the release of his debut album, 9999 in 1. He hosted a party at Los Angeles’ LASH Pop Up to celebrate, joined by Le Castle Vania – with Schoolboy in spirit – and many friends. Guests and press enjoyed daring electronic music into the night. Classic arcade activities were offered on free play in honor of the LP being inspired by pirated video games Mord played as a child. Patrons indulged in Donkey Kong, Marvel vs Capcom, and Galaga amongst others. The guests who arrived early were huddling around watching and challenging each other. My favorite was the Pac-Man machine found in the back lounge.
This crowd came to enjoy themselves. The club was filled with baseball caps, graphic t-shirts, glitter and freaks. Music enthusiasts were live tweeting, shazaming and forming circles to show off their ability to shuffle. Male photographers were taking selfies with concertgoers. Plain and simple, the atmosphere was fun and the new music from Mord was right where I hoped it would be in the live space. “Elite Beat Agent” is truly fantastic. Listen above. Although the venue offered minimal production at the event, it’s obvious that the performance of this record on massive stages will dominate. With the delivery of this record coming early in the year, I’m expecting it to carry strong into the spring and for plenty of you to see him on tour! Head over to iTunes to purchase 9999 in 1.
