If you need a good story before going to sleep, this might just do. Off Vancouver’s own David Vertesi debut solo album Cardiography, comes the delicate track “All Night, All Night, All Night”. The song’s name might seem a little obnoxious at first, but after the first listen it makes you realize it really couldn’t have been called anything else. And if there’s one thing that Vertesi masters in this song, it’s the ability to paint a vivid picture in the head of the listener to the point where each phrase seems to appear as a mini-vignette in my head. It’s always great to hear an acoustic song that is able to shine through and utterly ride on back of the hidden subtleties in the instrumentation alone, whether it is a couple of extra guitar notes to add sentiment at the end of every count, or a half-note increase in an otherwise monotonous drums beat, all the elements come to life to tell a story very few have cared to share.
Cardiography will be released on October 26, 2010.
