There are people that can completely ignore the lyrics of the song, and others that read too much into it. I have always been the type of person that appreciates melody over lyrics, musical structure over poetry and rhythm over words. Yet every time I find myself in need of music to help me get through things in life, lyrics are always capable of speaking directly to the heart. “Hello My Old Heart” from the debut self-titled EP of sister/Brother duo The Oh Hello’s does just that in the most profound of ways. The soft and carefully strum guitar chords, opens the song in an almost surgical manner leaving it wide open for the balmy vocals of Tyler Heath to seep through. The lyrics speaks directly to an old heart, a heart worn out from giving and a love that should have lasted just “a little while” longer. With soft self-dwelling verses, uplifting choir filled choruses and a warm overtone, ‘Hello My Old Heart’ is less about greeting one than forced to ultimately farewell.
The Oh Hello’s self-titled EP was release December 1st 2011 and “Name your price” for it on their bandcamp.
