For the past few weeks, it seems that female emcees have been winning. With Azealia Banks latest video release “1991,” Missy Elliot debuting new tracks, Nicki’s feature on the long-awaited Alicia Keys single “Girl on Fire” and the rise of newcomers Rapsody and Nitty Scott MC rap godesses have been on the come up in a time where gender diversity is scarce. Joining the trend is the South African bred, NYC underground nerd rapper Jean Grae, who dropped her latest single “Kill Screen” today. This self-produced track is the first single off her upcoming Gotham Down album and features plenty of arcade samples, bath salt puns, and references to the documentary The King of Kong. Coupled with a dark and stirring vibe, this single is one of the stronger releases of the week and has us ninjas hype to hear more from her upcoming efforts.
