Boys That Sing
It’s been nearly six months since we premiered Viola Beach’s debut single, “Swings & Waterslides.” From there, the track went on to experience tremendous success, hitting the Hype Machine’s Popular charts and racking up nearly a million plays across SoundCloud and Spotify. After all that success, it’s not hard to see why a lot of people had it pegged as one of the best tracks from 2015, including myself.
The band has since released “Cherry Vitmo,” a few months back, and are now keeping up the pace with “Boys That Sing.” Once again, listeners are blanketed by a warm familiarity that’s draped in classic songwriting structures, infused with well-executed guitar work and extremely catchy lyrics. Expect to catch catch yourself drifting between decades, blissfully singing along after only one listen through.
The release also launches the Communion Singles Club, a new platform for the much respected indie label to echo some of the magic generated in the early days around their first 7” and 12” offerings.
