Leave it to San Francisco to cultivate a groovy, sensual pop duo that’s a little out there, and overwhelmingly addictive. Yes, Symbols of the West have something special in the making. This gruesome twosome is blurring the lines between indie rock and electronica. With big buzzing beats, dialed-up synts, and delicate vocals from lead singer Nat Kendall, this group has essences of XX, Ratatat, and the Ravonettes all rolled into one.
Our favorite track on the album is far and away “Your Wake.” The soft strumming is more than inviting, especially when coupled with the perfectly synced vocal harmonies. The electronic elements added help add a depth and richness that’s truly impressive. On top of all that, the catchy hook will leave you singing “Your Wake” over and over in your shower tomorrow morning. Press play, and get hooked for yourself.
