Don't Tell
If you’ve scrolled the pages of TMN regularly over the past few years, you may have realized that we absolutely adore most everything from alt-pop purveyors Mansions on the Moon. From their excellent Full Moon EP last year, which was championed around the TMN office as the year’s choice extended play by more than one staffer, all the way back to their first ever mixtape produced by Diplo & Benzi and everything in between; it’s safe to say we’ve been hooked on their uniquely sophisticated sound for years. Today, Ted Wendler, Ben Hazlegrove, Lane Shaw and Jeff Maccora are back with their first single in almost an entire calendar year, “Don’t Tell” and as with every passing album, we’re offered a slight shift in instrumental focus with all of the careful execution we’ve come to expect from the So-Cal troupe. Fueled by a punchy kickdrum before diving into an irresistible synth pattern and Wendler’s reverb soaked angelic refrain; “Don’t Tell” plays like just as much rooftop pop anthem as it does disco and funk fueled club number; striking a delicate balance between pop sensibilties & structure and expert musicianship. As if we weren’t already excited by this one, the real icing on the cake is that it is the lead single from an impending debut, self-titled Long Player due out on October 22, which we have been drooling for like one of Pavlov’s canines since our first taste of Mansions. About the forthcoming LP the band this to say: “The name, “Mansions On The Moon,” comes from the concept of turning a dream into reality, which for us, means making the best music we can possibly create. After countless studio sessions, nights of crashing on friends’ couches, and bus rides to mixing sessions – our Mansion On The Moon is here.” Keep your eyes on us as we’ll be following every single leading up to the LP’s official release, but until then, enjoy “Don’t Tell” above.
