The conceptual synth-pop collaboration between Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys and producer Boom Bip, currently known as Neon Neon, has taken a step out of a relative quiet in early 2013 with its very recent release of the duo’s second full-length album Praxis Makes Perfect.  Another forward thinking take on music by the progressive twosome, Praxis Makes Perfect is a power-pop tour de force inspired by the colorful and often misunderstood life of Italian  maverick publisher and communist, Giagiacomo Feltrinelli. One of the  LP’s standout singles, “Hammer and Sickle” was given a little NSFW video treatment by director Rob Schroeder, and we were excited to get our little ninja hands all over it. A disorienting, but intoxicating avant-garde music video to say the least “Hammer and Sickle” deals with concepts of sexuality and government using some pretty shocking imagery. Communist symbols, pseudo-cameos by historical dictators and some sort of erotic, kinky banquet are all par for the course in a video that feels more like a short film than anything else. Check it out below.
