If You Went Away
Ypsi might be the home of East Michigan University, and also conveniently located only minutes away from one of the best foodie paradises in the world (praise be to Zingermans), but this town of just under twenty thousand will soon have a new claim to fame.
Daniel Wilson’s sophmore EP, Boy Who Cried Thunder, is already showing tremendous promise, and we’ve only been introduced to two songs. Today, we’re featuring the follow-up to the title track from this EP, giving you yet another reason to stop, listen, swoon and repeat.
Somewhere in between Bon Iver and James Vincent McMorrow, Daniel Wilson brings listeners familiar associations, while maintaining a completely unique and engaging feel. In “If You Went Away” we’re delightfully carried away from our day-to-day troubles on the backs of walking piano melody, a charging symphony of horns, strings and woodwinds, and of course, Wilson’s mind-numbling stunning vocals.
The good news? This track exists and you now know about it. The better news? It’s dropping tomorrow via Zap Records.
