Goldmine
There is an endless supply of inspirational quotes we could use to lead you into TeamMate’s story. You know those quotes. They’re the ones that your friends post on your timeline or text to you when you’ve gone through a rough experience. The funny thing is, these quotes have a strong ring of truth in this particular situation.
– Everything happens for a reason.
– Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all
Spawning out of an unlikely situation, Scott Simons and Dani Buncher founded this two-piece indie pop act out of a break up. It all started when the two, who were boyfriend and girlfriend for a decade, were talking about growing old together. At that time, Dani felt the need to admit something, coming out to her long time boyfriend. Fast forward four years, and an intense connection and mutual love for making music helped them revive and rework their relationship, which is what we’re witnessing with TeamMate.
Today’s release is following on the heels of “Don’t Count Me Out” which featured a novel approach to sharing their lyrics with their fans via Souncloud comments. While that was an impressive way to engage fans with their music, today is all about “Goldmine,” which is a synth-driven thrill ride worth listening to on repeat.
With soaring synths harmonizing perfectly with Simons’ vocals, this song sports an intense and energetic tempo carried by Buncher’s percussion work. Fast-paced hi-hat hits mixed in over rolling toms making this song the antithesis of laid back indie rock, taking on a delightfully charged-up synth pop persona instead. The end result is something noteworthy, drawing on comparisons of Matt and Kim, Passion Pit, and The Naked and Famous.
One can’t help but get completely taken away in the engaging pop structure, easily envisioning enjoying this infectious anthem at one of the many festivals that this duo is sure to be getting booked at in the near future.
