Andre Anjos, better known as RAC, the man responsibly for creating some of the best melodically rich dance remixes of upcoming indie artists (Edward Sharpe, Noah And The Whale, Temper Trap) took on the challenge of working with something a bit more out of his comfort zone: a hip/hop song. While the track “Why Even Try” by Brooklyn based hip/hop artist Theophilus London isn’t the most typical of hip/hop tracks, deeply rooted with electronic influences and a distinctive 80’s dance flare, it still features hippier elements and rhymes that do not come often in RAC remixes. At first listen, I almost felt ashamed to ever have thought RAC had a comfort zone because judging by the quality in this track, everything IS in his comfort zone. It is rare when a remixed of a track trumps over the original and as much I enjoyed original ‘Why Even Try’, I just can come to play it anymore knowing a much cleaner, melodic summer-ready version is out and about. This track is both quirky and fun and that is really all you need to get through these hot summer days.
