Shout (Avenue Remix)
Anybody over the age of 25 should be able to sing at least a chorus from a Tears for Fears’ song. Some time ago, you couldn’t turn a corner without hearing “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “Head Over Heels,” and probably the most commonly sung to, “Shout.”
With music taking a strong stride towards 80’s synth heavy sounds, it’s no wonder this New Wave Pop duo has a major comeback planned, which happens to include a remix competition. Coincidentally, Avenue is already ahead of the game, having put this track together before Tears for Fears even announced these grand scale plans at making a splash in the current music scene.
We posted one of this Toronto based producer’s tracks a while back, but most of you probably aren’t familiar with his sound yet. With a orchestral, electronic approach, Sam Willows (Avenue) has a laid back, yet highly winsome sound, mixing classical instrumentation with spiraling synths and a progressive beats.
In his take on the 1985 chart-smashing classic, “Shout,” we’re offered up a dancy version of the political protest tune. Gone are the power chords, heavy percussion and uncharacteristic guitar solo. In their place we find energetic, pulsing synthesizers that drive the tune into a full-on dance floor pleaser.
Make sure to keep an eye out on Avenue to see if his remix makes the cut! All of us at TMN are definitely rooting him on.
