[Hip-Hop] Wale & A-Trak – Festivus EP

Less than a week after announcing his new collaborative EP with A-Trak, Wale‘s new Festivus EP has finally arrived just in time for the holiday (for those of you unfamiliar with Seinfeld lore, I refer you to this.) Despite how you may feel about the quality of his studio albums, there’s no question Wale has always had a firm grasp on the mixtape game. That trend continues here, as Wale’s latest project falls right in line with previous Seinfeld-inspired works like The Mixtape About Nothing and More About Nothing. With a wide array of features including Pusha T, Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment, Ab-Soul, A$AP Ferg and more, serves as a promising appetizer as a the seasoned emcee prepares to release The Album About Nothing sometime in 2015. Stream a few of our favorite selections from the project, and follow the download link below.

[NEW] Ab-Soul – Hunnid Stax (feat. ScHoolboy Q)

Ab-Soul
Hunnid Stax Ft. ScHoolboy Q

Ab-Souls long-anticipated sophomore album is set to drop in two weeks and, earlier today, the LA-based emcee unleashed a dope track featuring fellow Top Dawg Entertainment representative, Schoolboy Q“Hunnid Stax” opens with Soul stating, “people treat you real nice when you’ve got $50 draws on” before the menacing, hazy production of Kenny Beats takes a hold.

While the title suggests a stereotypical rap song about money, reminiscent of Odd Future’s recent skit, fans of Ab-Soul’s first album, Control System, will recognize the implied irony in his bars. ScHoolboy Q’s gritty vocals could not fit the beat better and Mac Miller contributes a brief chorus of sorts that helps add to the mischievous vibe. Enjoy this one above and keep an eye out for These Days…, which drops on June 24th.

Tree of Life

TDE is slowly making moves to take over the game in 2014. Following the drop of SZA‘s debut LP Z, lyricist Ab-Soul is up next to take the ranks. The West Coast emcee drops a new track for fans listening enjoyment over the weekend. The Curtiss King-produced joint, “Tree of Life,” finds the young emcee spitting some smooth bars over a chill beat about those good herbs. Just in time for 4/20, this new tune doesn’t exactly show off Soul’s lyrical prowess on the mic, but it still makes for a dope listen.

[Hip-Hop] Lupe Fiasco & Ab-Soul – Thorns & Horns

LUPE FIASCO & AB-SOUL
THORNS & HORNS prod. by Floss & Fame

After a slew of peculiar releases late last week, Lupe Fiasco appears to be back in his element with his latest single, “Thorns & Horns.” Teaming up with TDE wordsmith, Ab-Soul, the two emcees showcase their lyrical prowess, trading some vicious bars atop some booming Floss & Flame production. The song itself is plagued with watermarks claiming “This version is for Ab-Soul,” which might indicate this isn’t a final cut.

Opting for a much more “commercial” sound with his last few singles, it’s gotten us wondering whether Tetsuo & Youth will truly be a dramatic departure from his previous efforts, or if he’s really just throwing us all for a curveball. You can never really tell what’s going on in Lupe’s mind, so instead of trying to dissect his thought process, we’ll just take things at face value for now with a raised brow.

Common
Made In Black America Ft. Ab-Soul

In the lead-up to his upcoming album, Nobody’s Smiling, Common seems as hungry as ever, determined to prove that he’s still one of the most vicious lyricists in the game. Bridging the generational gap with his latest effort, the Chitown spitter goes toe-to-toe with the young cat, Ab-Soul, who’s more than capable of holding his own with the rap legend. “Made In Black America” is a gritty, streetwise production that features both emcees reflecting on their experiences growing up in the streets, while still weaving in some indelible punchlines bursting with bravado. Listen to the track above, and keep on the lookout for more from Com and No I.D. when the album drops later this year.

Ice.Moon Revisited feat. Ab-Soul

TDE songstress SZA has been on her grind over the past month and returns to the interwebs today with a new rendition of her latest single. This time around, the beautiful singer links up with her fellow labelmate Ab-Soul for the renamed “Ice.Moon.Revisited.” The track finds both artists showing off their respective skills over a dark and menacing Felix Snow and Pat Lukens beat. Driven by heavy-hitting bass through drum work and contrasting soft bells, the two compliment the production well with their talents. This is definitely a track to sit-back and listen to if you’re looking for a mental escape. Make sure to check out the official video for the original as well below.

My Kind Of Love feat. Ab-Soul

British songstress Emeli Sandé has been steadily making her way into the American market. After teaming up with Kendrick Lamar for the remix of “Next To Me,” Sandé collaborates with another TDE member, Ab-Soul, on the remix for “My Kind of Love.” Her unique voice and talent for penning quality lyrics still shine through on the re-worked beat of the charting single from her debut album, Our Version of Events. The Black Hippy emcee also delivers some words spoken straight from the heart. No news on whether this will be part of a full length compilation, but take a listen to the single above.
