[Hip-Hop] Big Sean – Sanctified

Big Sean
Sanctified

After joining forces with Rick Ross and Kanye West on the original Mastermind single, Big Sean‘s decided to step out into the spotlight on his own, delivering a fresh new verse on “Sanctified.” Rest assured, Sean rolls steady with the punchlines, keeping the boasting to a maximum as he makes bold declarations like “I feel like I’m the black Brad Pitt,” and “If you got my e-mail, you’s a millionaire. If you got my cell phone, you’s a realionaire.” Real deep stuff, if you ask me. All kidding aside, while this alternative version makes for an entertaining listen, Sean can’t quite match the intensity of his mentor on the original. At least now we know what the single would have sounded like had it included a few more bars from Big Sean himself.

It’s already been a busy week for hip-hop so far, but it only seems to be looking up from here. With Rick Ross‘ sixth studio album, Mastermind, set to drop next week, we’re getting an early listen of the most anticipated track from the project, “Sanctified.” Featuring G.O.O.D. Music’s Kanye West and Big Sean, “Sanctified” is a soulful banger, crafted through a combined effort between Yeezy and DJ Mustard. All three emcees trade bars interchangeably over an instrumental that features a few trademarks from both talented producers. While this is probably the first single to really move the needle for us on Ross’ latest album, there’s still some interesting collaborations yet to be heard featuring The Weeknd, Lil Wayne, Mavado, Scott Storch, and more. Check out the single above, and make sure to get your pre-orders in for Mastermind before it drops on March 4th.

A nice little gift to top off a great music Monday comes in the form of a previously unreleased Big Sean track. In his typical fashion, the Detroit emcee talks about his achievements providing inspiration for anyone hoping to reach success in their life’s pursuits. As its title suggests, this new track is essentially a hip-hop version of the Thank You note penned over a jazzy, feel-good instrumental. This one’s a great pick me up to end the start of your week. We hope everybody had an enjoyable Christmas break full of wonder and cheer. Even if you didn’t, we’ve got the perfect gift for you right here. In the spirit of the Holidays, French producer Stwo decided to present us with one more incredible remix to wrap up the year. With his edit of Drake‘s “All Me,” Stwo continues to remind us why he’s looked upon as one of the most talented up and coming producers in the game. This might just be his most impressive effort to date, utilizing his R&B sensibilities to completely transform the track into a buttery smooth composition full of mesmerizing keys, glittering strings, and rapid hi-hats. 10210 Remix Feat. Rick Ross & Travi$ Scott

It’s hard to deny that Big Sean is one of the hardest workers in the game. How else could you explain his steady ascent to the top of the charts over the last few years? Now Sean wants to share in the wealth, allowing a few friends–namely MMG’s Rick Ross and G.O.O.D. Music labelmate Travi$ Scott–to give his latest single a whole new spin. Given the hilarious (or offensive depending on your opinion) nature of the chorus you knew this track was in for a remix treatment. As one of his hardest hitting joints to date, Sean somehow finds a way to improve off the original, with Rozay and Scott sounding right at home over the pounding instrumental. Check out the single above, and make sure to grab yourself a free download. Hall of Fame is in stores now.

[Album Review] Big Sean – Hall of Fame

An artist’s sophomore album is usually defined as their career making one and with Big Sean’s Hall of Fame, he proves that he is not just a commercial rapper, but an improved lyricist who is still learning to master his craft. There is no denying that during the year following his debut release of Finally Famous, Sean has accrued quite a list of accomplishments. From launching his clothing line Aura Gold, holding his own with plenty of charismatic verses on Cruel Summer, dropping a critically acclaimed Detroit mixtape, to dating the beautiful Naya Rivera,  the 25 year old rapper is in nothing but a celebratory mood, yet still remains humble.

…What you know about feeling something you can’t even touch

Opening with a set of violins and rowdy applause, the intro “Nothing is Stopping You” is as equally attention grabbing as it is motivational. Carrying the theme that hard work and dedication will reward you with the things you desire, Sean’s flow definitely reflects the self-satisfaction that fame has brought him. A theme and sound that smoothly transitions into the Key Wayne produced keys of the soulful lead single “Fire” and the Young Jeezy and Payroll assisted “It’s Time.” The track “10 2 10” takes the listener on a walk down Sean’s memory lane and serves as the album’s autobiographical piece as he spits about life growing up in the city of Detroit.
