As we continue our month-long spotlight on Chris Lake, we’ve come to our favorite part of the Residency Program. Don’t get us wrong, we’re always excited about sharing some brand-new music or a wicked custom mix, but an interview gives you insight into an artist like nothing else.

Seeing how it’s Friday, we’re guessing today is going to be a lax day around the office, which makes the perfect situation for you to take 10 minutes off to get to know one of our favorite musicians.

TMN: Hey Chris! Thanks for taking some time to connect. It’s been a long time since we last spoke – all the way back in 2012! It’s good to connect and it’s great to have you as our Resident Artist.

CL: Thank you for inviting me!

TMN: First things first, let’s talk about the shift you’ve gone through this year. What inspired it?

CL: It came off the back of isolation from the rest of the world. I was a little bit disillusioned as to where I found myself positioned. I got a bit sick of some of the events I was playing, some of the bigger festivals, the main stages, and some of the things I found myself doing to make people dance.

I had lots of time by myself about a year ago and started to mess around and try new things. I went back to what I did years ago, and tried to put a new spin on it. I just loved it. It felt like an 18-year-old kid again, just producing and having fun. I was innovating in my own way, creating a sound that no one else has. I’m confident I’ve got that now. I’m confident you can listen to a record and say, “that’s a Chris Lake groove.” And, that makes me feel good.

It’s the sound of my heart, so to speak. I know it’s quite as attention-grabbing as some of the records I’ve done over the past few years, but I love it.

There’s no doubt in anybody’s mind when it comes to DJs traveling. Often having multiple shows, in multiple states, on the same day, these veterans of land, sea, and air travel rack up more miles than most people could ever dream of.

[Resident Artist for July] Give It Up for Chris Lake

Back in 2012, in the midst of the EDM frenzy, we discovered someone who would soon become one of our favorite producers and DJs. In a time where the intensity of electro house and dubstep were favorites amongst the blogoshpere, Chris Lake always seemed to capture that energy and do so in a creative way.

The past year has brought dance music fans a fresh new look at this storied Scottish DJ, bringing a more house-centric vibe to partygoers and clubbers across the globe. While the inventiveness, style, and artful craftsmanship is still very much there, the sounds are much groovier, and much smoother, perhaps providing insight into his roots as a fan of dance music in its early days. Fans should also notice a strong tie into his often humorous persona, as his tracks seem to mimic that cheekiness with ease.

It’s always interesting when we see an artist switch gears in their career, especially when they do so flawlessly, executing their next move with ease. For that reason, and our longtime adoration, we’re bringing you a month-long look at Mr. Chris Lake.

Being a Top 25 Club from DJ Mag comes at no surprise as Beta Nightclub has been featuring an amazing array of talent this summer, and this weekend is once again no exception.

Being regulars at Beta, we figured we should share their line up with you, in hopes that you’ll come down and rage with us. Also, just like last time, we have arranged for something special.
