Wednesday Workout Playlist [Vol. 7]

As these hot, hot temperatures finally begin to let up a bit, at least for now, we aren’t hesitating to take advantage of the beautiful days by spending them by the water. As most of us know, there is almost nothing more satisfying than sprawling out on the sand, soaking in the sun and feeling that reoccurring cool breeze on your skin. The only thing that can possibly enhance this experience is some great music playing in the background. That’s why this week we conjured up a selection of tunes to both relax and get energized to.

Daft Punk – Instant Crush (CAFUNÉ Edition) [TMN Premiere]

CAFUNÉ
Instant Crush (CAFUNÉ Edition)

Random Access Memories was an album met with mixed feelings by many. With that being said, it’s had countless remixes since being released, as is routine with anything Daft Punk. With just under two years after it came to us, RAM received a new rendition of one of its standout tracks, “Instant Crush,” courtesy of the indie electronic duo CAFUNÉ.

These two have built a strong identity right out of the gate with their high energy original, “Letting Go,” and a resounding version of Porter Robinson‘s “Sad Machine.” Their first tune of 2015 comes in hot, and continues to push the envelope of exactly what they are capable of. They had this to say about their newest:

“We love doing these “editions” because it’s a chance for us to exercise our creative muscles while working on original music. Both of us grew up with The Strokes and Daft Punk and they’re two of our greatest inspirations as a duo. “Instant Crush” is also one of our favorite tracks off of Random Access Memories, so it only made sense for us to do it as a Valentine’s Day treat.”

No pun intended, but they did a lovely job. It captures the essence of the original while showcasing their talents as a dual threat with analog and digital production techniques. The New York duo has a debut original project in the works, but luckily we have this stellar number to hold us over until then. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day (or All-Star Weekend if that’s more up your alley) with CAFUNÉ and keep these two on your radar. Don’t miss out on the free download!

Daft Punk – One More Time (Luca Lush Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Daft Punk
One More Time (LUCA LUSH Remix)

Soundcloud, even with its quirks, bugs and uncertainties, remains an amazing tool for music discovery from both a fan and artist perspective. Over the last couple years, a number of collectives have done a particularly good job curating like-minded artists via SC allowing listeners further opportunity to find producers similar to ones they already know and love. The alaya collective is a perfect example of one such taste-maker introducing us to some of our favorite new artists in the future R&B and chill-bass realm over the last year.

Today, we’re excited to be premiering a new track from New York-based, alaya-affiliated producer Luca Lush, who has been killing the Soundcloud game recently. Before you jump to conclusions about his decision to take on Daft Punk, keep in mind that Luca has already remixed classics like “Let’s Get It On” and “In Da Club” recently with marvelously creative results. His take on “One More Time” is no different as he allows the original vocals to progress over a radiant backdrop before bridging into a glitchy break and finally breaking down completely into an addicting piano melody. By the 2-minute mark Luca has taken full control injecting his unique feels for a truly dynamic, triumphant closing. Grab a free download here and, if you like what you hear, make sure to follow Luca Lush and alaya, who’ve got a new compilation on the way, on Soundcloud at those links.

P.S. If you haven’t heard it already, make sure to check out Luca Lush’s addicting collaboration with Feki, “Club Love,” one of my personal favorites.

[Electronica] Spazzkid – Something About Us (Daft Punk cover)

Something About Us (Daft Punk Cover)

Attempting to cover a Daft Punk classic is always risky and ballsy, but here we have Spazzkid‘s cover of “Something About Us” and he definitely killed it, keep it original and unique. The LA producer slows it down with this one, mixing tropical synths with electronic beats, and incorporating them nicely with the original vocal samples, building this awesome cover from scratch. It’s truly amazing how this cover differs from the Daft Punk classic in terms of distinctiveness and musical style. The breakdown towards the end comes in with a bang, sealing the deal with that melodic solo.

The key to a cover is to be creative and different but at the same time maintain credibility to the original, and Spazzkid manages to do just that. If you’re into instrumental electronica, go check out Spazzkid’s other stuff. They’re one of a kind and will leave you in awe.

[NEW] Pharrell – Gust of Wind (Feat. Daft Punk)

Pharrell
Gust of Wind (Feat. Daft Punk)

When the tracklist for G I R L was first announced, we knew right away that there was one track that we absolutely needed to hear. With the album stream for Pharrell‘s latest album going up last night, we also figured it wouldn’t be long before that particular song would surface to the net. After teaming up for two spectacular singles on Random Access Memories, Daft Punk and the ageless wonder that we know as Pharrell are aiming to see if they can “Get Lucky” (see what we did there?) with a third team-up on “Gust of Wind.” Unsurprisingly, the trio have struck gold once again, with a groovy, disco-infused number that’ll have you tapping your toes the instant the beat kicks in. Take a listen to the addicting tune above, and be sure to get your pre-orders in for G I R L as soon as possible.
