[Glitch Hop] Drake – HYFR (AC Slater Remix)

We are loving the latest AC Slater remix of Canadian hip hop kingpin Drake. Brooklyn native AC Slater perfectly balanced the hip hop swagger of the original while switching it up into proper glitch hop form with some gangster synth work. Be sure to grab the download below and look out for AC Slater this festival season. As for Drake, you’all know the name!

Stream/Review: Drake – Take Care

Our friend Anthony from the Needledrop created a video review for Drake’s new album Take Care, released today. We really couldn’t have said it better ourselves. The new album does provide big improvements from its previous release but it still leaves you overdosed on Drake, with over 80 long minutes of him. Some collaboration and features do give the album greater dynamics but unfortunately they also add a lot of filler. A clearly softer album showing his sensitive side, but many times things take a turn for the corny side. Either way a great video review to watch for anyone interested in the album. What are your thoughts? Comment below.

Drake – Take Care (Ft. Rihanna)

Drake’s new album ‘Take Care’ is almost upon us being released November 15th. It apparently got leaked a couple of hours ago and to be honest I do not care much for it. I always found Drake to be a talented artist but have been disappointed with most of his other releases since his mixtape (maybe the hype was too high). Add to that some collaborations with Rihanna and I almost want to lay on the corner of my room in the fetal position. However, in all fairness, music is subjective and I am posting this to see the reaction. They did “try” to sound more indie involving Jamie Xx and sampling the late Gil-Scott Heron… but it almost feels more of a disservice.

[Dubstep] DJ Khaled Ft Drake, Lil Wayne – I’m On One (KillaGraham Remix)

KillaGraham just dropped this massive remix of Drake’s I’m On One, turning a standard Top 40 hip hop song into a total dubstep banger. Relatively new to the dubstep scene, KillaGraham is quickly demonstrating his fearsome musical talent with track after track of fat bass, trippy synth and catchy melodies that you can vibe, dance, or straight up rage to. He’s got a bunch of free downloads on his Soundcloud, all of which are just as dirty as this new remix, so there’s no excuse not to grab this stuff and start groovin.

[Catch-UP Playlist] What we missed late June 2011

June was a difficult month as I was traveling for personal reasons and at times it was hard to really hammer out some posts. With that said, all that is behind me and I dedicate this post to everyone that didn’t quite have the time to catch up on some new music. Not all songs below were released just on June but I have added others that I think we should have discovered sooner. ZIP Coming soon. Enjoy!

[Hip/Hop] Young Money – Bedrock (Djedjotronic Remix)

Although I can’t decipher the pronunciation of his name, I can, however get behind his production work on this track. Djedjotronic keeps it laid back and simple with his remix of “Bedrock” by Young Money. It’s a crafty alternative to the generic original. The only recognizable parts from the original song are the vocal segments. He incorporates a straight-forward but effective backdrop right underneath raps from Young Money Entertainment stars such as Nicki, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Gudda.

This remix is included on Brodinski’s newest compilation, “Best of Everything Vol. II” , which features like-minded remixes of popular Hip-Hop and R & B hits. You can find more of Djedjotronic’s work on his MySpace, and you can also read his thoughts (in 140 characters or less) via his Twitter profile.

I still can’t pronounce his name…

[Hip/Hop] K-os ft. Drake – “Faith”

K-os is responsible, in no small way, for the latest cycle of successful Canadian emcees. His break-through single (Crabbuckit) was a huge hit domestically and internationally for the singer/rapper. Drake is newer on the scene, but has already seen fame far beyond K-os 2004 success.

Make no mistake, Faith is very much a K-os song. It’s heavy in blues guitar and ethereal keyboard, and drums that sound like an actual drum-set. Drake holds his own but doesn’t touch K-os’ lyric in the song. On this track at least, he’s incapable of reaching the same depth as the lead emcee.

That said, this track could easily serve as an introduction to K-os for some of the millions of followers Drake recently acquired. I’m all in favor that, just know that this track barely scrapes the surface of K-os’ greatest hits.
