[Hip-Hop] Earl Sweatshirt & Action Bronson – Warlord Leather (Prod. The Alchemist)

Earl Sweatshirt & Action Bronson
Warlord Leather

In case you hadn’t realized already, both Earl Sweatshirt and Action Bronson released new albums this past Monday, with Bronsolino dropping the highly anticipated Mr. Wonderful, and Earl coming through with the (nearly) surprising release of I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside. In commemoration of these events, The Alchemist decided to unearth a collaboration between the two talented emcees called “Warlord Leather.” Given the parties involved, you should already have an idea of what to expect from the gritty number, which remains faithful to its title.

It’s kind of fascinating the way these two are able to come together on one track, given the polarizing nature of their respective projects. Bronson’s Mr. Wonderful remains bombastic and energetic, while Earl’s project is far more dreary and reclusive. It makes for an interesting contrast, and we highly suggest you check out both albums if you haven’t gotten the chance yet.

Knucklehead Feat. Earl Sweatshirt

It’s the season of giving, so the folks over at Red Bull have launched a new series called 20 Before 15, in which they’ll be releasing 20 songs in 20 days leading up to 2015. For the fourth entry in the program, they’ve selected a new cut from Lil Herb–yet another “Chi-raq” native who’s had a marquee year for himself in 2014, and seems primed for a breakout. Pairing him up with Odd Future‘s Earl Sweatshirt, the two combine to create a laidback, yet tenacious tune where they reminisce about some of their previous knuckleheaded behavior. Earl performs double duty here, handling the production as well, and the pair originally hooked up for this collaboration down in Austin for SXSW. Stream the track above, and be on the lookout for more from Red Bull in the coming days.

Tyler, The Creator
Look (Feat. Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis & Earl Sweatshirt) (Prod. by Nottz)

Just when you thought it was finally safe, Tyler, The Creator and his Odd Future crew decide to swoop in and make sure you’re taking a second “Look” before you try to cross them. Presumably feeling a little left out of the conversation lately, Tyler teams up with three of his finest running mates–Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, and Earl Sweatshirt–to bring us an absolutely nasty banger here . The brand new track features the West Coast emcees trading bars over a dusty Nottz produced instrumental, where each member brings their best cards to the table, making it tough to decide who comes out on top. Instead of debating though, it might just be best to enjoy the single for what it is, and leave the discussion for another day. There’s no indication on where this will end up, but let’s hope that this is the first indication of that EarlWolf album that was hinted at earlier this year.

[Hip-Hop] Earl Sweatshirt – Sunday (Feat. Frank Ocean)

Sunday (Feat. Frank Ocean)

The Earl Sweatshirt leaks continue to pour in as we ready ourselves for the release of his debut album, Doris, early next week. I had to blink twice as I wrote that last sentence, because it seems like Earl’s been a staple in our rotation for awhile now. That tells you just about everything you need to know about how talented he really is. Joining him on his latest effort is Odd Future running mate, Frank Ocean. While we all know and love Frank for his pristine vocal chords, he seizes this opportunity to get a few thoughts off his chest. Perfect for a “Sunday,” right?

What I appreciate about Frank is that while he does have bars, he doesn’t take every opportunity to try and shove his rap skills down our throats (unlike certain other artists who he may or may not be taking shots at during his verse); his entire process feels organic, and perhaps even a little cathartic. At the end of the day though, he knows when to stick to his strengths, which is why he’s such a brilliant artist. All that aside, “Sunday” is yet another stellar number to add to Earl’s collection. The anticipation is nearly suffocating us at this point, but with Doris right around the corner (August 20th), it looks like our patience will finally pay off.

Fans who missed out on Earl Sweatshirt‘s vitaminwater x The FADER’s Uncapped show in New York were treated with another little surprise last night in the form of a brand new single, “Hive.” Also featuring Casey Veggies and Vince Staples, the video is edgy and dark, yet still quirky enough to make sure you don’t forget it’s an Odd Future production. Doris is set to finally drop on August 20th, and we can’t wait to hear what Earl has in store for us. Make sure to grab yourself a copy of “Hive” on iTunes, available now.
