[Hip-Hop] Heems – Home (ft. Dev Hynes)

Heems
Home (ft. Dev Hynes)

NYC emcee, Heems, formerly of Das Racist, is preparing to drop his solo album next month and, if the releases thus far are any indication, it promises to be a great one. Earlier this morning, Heems dropped off one of the the most anticipated collaborations from the project, with Dev Hynes, of Blood Orange. “Home” proves a mellow, yet heart-wrenching, track with a gorgeous instrumental to match Heems’s unique delivery recounting a lost relationship. It’s an interesting contrast with the last single, the more upbeat “Sometimes,” allowing the talented emcees versatility to shine alongside Hynes’s phenomenal production. Give this one a listen above–Eat Pray Thug is due out on March 10th and can be pre-ordered via iTunes now.

[Hip-Hop] Heems – Sometimes

Heems
Sometimes

When Das Racist split up a few years back, it was unclear what kind of musical output we could expect from its members and, for a brief moment, it appeared that we’d be losing some of the freshest talent in hip-hop. Luckily, since that time, frontman Himanshu Suri aka Heems has remained active with his record label, Greedhead Music, putting out impressive solo mixtapes and making feature appearances on several top-notch projects. Last week, Heems shared a new track along with an official release date for his debut studio album, Eat. Pray. Thug.

“Sometimes” sees Heems in top form spitting over evolving, dynamic production from Gordon Voidwell that allows his stream-of-conscious flow to truly shine as he adjusts his cadence in a way that perfectly matches the motif of the song. In Suri’s own words, this track focuses on “dualities, identity and the space between spaces” using the title as a starting point to portray a unique, important and insightful racial perspective not commonly found in rap music. Eat. Pray. Thug. is out March 10th and can be pre-ordered on iTunes now. In the meantime, enjoy this phenomenal piece of musical commentary above.

[Hip-Hop] Heems – Cowabunga Gnarly (prod. Harry Fraud)

Queens-bred Heems, of Das Racist, continues his string of incredibly dope, albeit absurd, conscious raps with the latest Harry Fraud-produced release from his highly anticipated upcoming mixtape. On “Cowabunga Gnarly,” Fraud, a rapidly rising artist, departs slightly from his signature sound, setting the backdrop perfectly for his fellow NYC native with persistent, heavy drums and a variety of sprinkled vocal samples. In top form, Himanshu provides some insightful social commentary regarding race and materialism, drawing a parallel to the allure of casinò senza licenza AAMS, where unregulated spaces reflect broader issues of control and exploitation. All the while, he maintains his strangely engaging and free-flowing delivery. Unlike many artists who attempt to unveil modern issues, Heems does an unbelievable job of keeping the raps simultaneously entertaining and educational with his originality and own brand of comic relief.

Stream and download the unique “Cowabunga Gnarly” below and look out for Wild Water Kingdom, which is due out on November 1st via Greedhead.

[Hip-Hop] Heems (of Das Racist) – Let it Go Feat. Cee Gee (Prod. Keyboard Kid)

It’s Bollywood meets the trap with this brand new track from Heems of Das Racist. As one of the most bizarre emcees in the game right now, Heems brings that same gritty oddball flow to this swagged out cut from his Wild Water Kingdom mixtape, dropping October 15th.  The song features a scattered sound, with an Indian sample which roughly translates to “Let me go,” while Cee Gee brings some reggae flavor to the chorus, all with some heavy drums blaring in the background and Heems talking trash throughout as usual.  It definitely makes for an interesting listen, and one that will leave you scratching your head while bopping it at the same time.
