[Remix] Phoenix – Trying To Be Cool (Feat. R. Kelly)

Phoenix
Trying To Be Cool feat. R Kelly

After joining forces together at Coachella, we knew it was only time before something substantial came out of a pairing between R. Kelly and Phoenix. While we would have settled for an official recording of their mashup of “1901” and “Ignition (Remix),” this might be an even better prize. The Bankrupt! single makes the transformation from a song that was “Trying To Be Cool” to one that truly is with Kels now featured on the track. It’s not like the original was a slouch, but anytime you add R. Kelly into the mix, you automatically bump yourself up a few notches on the “coolness” meter. Just ask Aziz Ansari. Stream the single above, and make sure to grab yourself a copy. This one’s definitely a must have.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #43

Chill Dojo #43, where have you been hiding? For any keen ninjas playing along at home, you may have thought we’d gone and jumped straight to #44 and skipped out on a key edition. For anyone who didn’t realize, congrats anyway because we have another playlist of great music to make up for the lack of chill last week. Everyone’s a winner! While getting lost in tunes like this, you can incorporate games like  온라인 카지노 into your chill vibes.

And what better prize than our first track from Danish musician Galimatias which is an absolute delight. There is certainly something going on in Scandinavia right now when you have artists like this and Norway’s Cashmere Cat producing some truly special sounds that are taking the world by storm. ‘Marshmallow Grove’ and ‘Lakeside Blu’ are just a few examples of this magic being brewed for our ears. And if we’re talking global sensations, Bondax have certainly been gaining attention far beyond their UK homeland, and their latest summer jam ‘Giving it All’ is certain to keep that momentum going. But it’s not all happening in Europe, and there’s plenty to enjoy from US artists as well. This sexy remix of ‘Her Favorite Song’ from Oliver is out to prove just that,  as well as another batch of ‘C O O L’ remixes with the release of Le Youth’s EP. Dojo favourite Lane 8 is our pick of the bunch, so if you’ve happened to miss all the other versions we’ve featured, make sure not to sleep on this one.  Now it’s been a while since we’ve ended the playlist with a fun little novelty track, and in late celebration of the 4th of July, we’ve got Giraffage’s hilarious remake of ‘Party in the USA’. As amusing as it is, it’s actually quite impressive how the quality production transforms the grating tone of the Miley Cyrus original into something so listenable.

But no matter where you hail from, we’re celebrating the amazing sounds coming from all corners of the globe. That’s what music is all about. Peace out.

Phoenix – Entertainment (Blood Orange Remix)

Entertainment
Blood Orange Remix

Talk about a remix. Blood Orange — aka Dev Hynes, aka the mastermind behind such hot pop tracks as Solange’s “Losing You” and Sky Ferreira’s “Everything Is Embarrassing” — has totally flipped the newest single from Phoenix. The smooth, synth-poppy “Entertainment”, in the hands of Hynes, becomes a velvety R&B jam, complete with tingling piano, a groovy bass, and a very real late night ’80s-classic feel. Considering the transformation, it’s a pretty stellar, stellar remix. Check it out.

Phoenix – Lisztomania (Bomb Coltrane Remix)

It’s a little hard to believe that Phoenix‘s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix came out over three years ago. How is it that we’ve survived that long without new tunes? Fortunately, we came upon this funk-filled “Lisztomania” remix by Bomb Coltrane, a relatively unknown UK producer. He seems to envision the original in a completely different light, changing up its chill swagger by dialing up the energy and throwing in some roaring brass effects that really make the rework pop and soar. Stream and download it below!

Phoenix vs. Kavinsky – Night Mania (Carlos Serrano Mix)

French electro house artist Vincent Belorgey, known professionally as Kavinsky, has a style very few can match. Focusing on romanticizing music similar to electro-pop film soundtracks of the 1980s, Vincent takes us to the past without leaving the present. The track ‘Nightcall’ got a lot more exposure when it was used on movie Drive, featuring Ryan Gosling.

So that is the past, what about this track? San Diegos own, Carlos Serrano mashed together two indie classics while still letting both songs shine through. Samping the vocals from Phoenix “Lisztomania” and Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” melody in the background, Carlos Serrano gives us another beautiful song to add to our spring playlist.
