[Hip-Hop] Fabolous – The Soul Tape 3

Fabolous has struggled with consistency throughout his entire career. Anointed as a successor to Jay-Z in the New York hip-hop scene during his early days as an emcee, he’s never seemed to live up to the expectations allotted to him by fans, despite having plenty of commercial success. While we can’t get behind everything that Loso has released in recent times, there’s always one thing we can look forward to every year: The Soul Tape. Incepted in 2011, the series has reflected the qualities most appreciated in Fab as an emcee (his smooth demeanor, witty punchlines, etc.) as he rhymes over soulful instrumentals both old and new. This year’s edition comes gift wrapped in a giant bow, featuring artists like Jadakiss, Ryan Leslie, Young Jeezy, Meek Mill, and Jeremih as well as production from araabMUZIK, Boi-1da, ILLmind, and more. Check out a few highlights from the project below, and then follow the link to cop a free download of the tape.

[Hip-Hop] Talib Kweli – Attack The Block (Mixtape)

Talib Kweli is one of the lyrical masters of the game, so when he puts out free music, it’s a good idea to pay attention. Attack The Block may serve as a teaser to his upcoming album, Prisoner of Conscious, but it’s definitely a standout project all on its own. The 18-track project features verses from an eclectic group of artists including Black Thought, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Ryan Leslie, Ab-Soul, Das Racist, and even more. It’s this diverse selection of artists that really makes the mixtape distinctive from Kweli’s previous ventures.

[Hip-Hop/R&B] Ryan Leslie-Live Good (Rivieria Flow) ft Raekwon

After remaining relatively mute in the past couple months, Ryan Leslie resurfaced and dropped some new material titled “Live Good (Rivieria Flow)”. Leslie takes the signature smooth, laid back chill vibe with this record and teams up with Wu Tang vet Raekwon to deliver a poetic rap/singing dedicated to the good life. This track has a particular lounge, relaxing on your yacht type feel to it and, although I was skeptical at first about R.Les the rapper, the multi-talented producer/singer/emcee/songwriter seems to find his niche with this smooth track.

Be sure to check out his junior effort Les Is More, dropping October 23, via his independent label Next Selection.
