[Electronic] SD – Circles (Smoko Ono x Mr Carmack Remix)

Smoko Ono x Mr Carmack x SD
CIRCLES (Official Remix)

Chitown native SD had a breakout year in 2014 with the release of his hit street single, “Circles.” Today the track finally receives the remix treatment, with a refreshing new update courtesy of fellow Windy City resident Smoko Ono and Soulection’s Mr Carmack. Those three names alone should be enough to convince you to give this one a listen. This reinterpretation preserves much of the essence of the original, but it’s further amplified through an ethereal mix of synths that’ll have your head spinning in, well “Circles”. Stream the hypnotic tune above and be on the lookout for more from these promising producers in the near future.

[Hip-Hop] 119 Productions & THE FDC – THE C.S.S. (Chicago Sight N’ Sound)

Chicago Sight N’ Sound is an ambitious endeavor between 119 Productions & The FDC meant to showcase the city’s best and brightest up-and-comers. Plenty of familiar faces are scattered throughout the two-part project, including Mick Jenkins, Lucki Eck$, Saba, The O’My’s, Kami De Chukwu, Jean Deaux, Ibn Inglor, Smoko Ono, Jarred AG, Dally Auston, Martin $ky and many more. The C.S.S. takes advantage of some of these more well established names to introduce listeners to some newer talent they may have never even heard of, which is essentially is the true goal of this undertaking. In fact, some of the project’s best moments come from artists who may have never crossed your radar before.

Along with the mixtapes which make up the “Sound” portion of the project, there’s also a visual aspect which can be found on 119’s official website. After checking out the full scope of The C.S.S, it’s pretty clear that the teams over at 119 Productions and The FDC poured their heart and soul into making this project possible, and it’s not a stretch to say this is one of the most important projects to come out of the Chi all year, if only to show that the city can really unite together as one.

We’ve selected a few of our favorites from both mixtapes below, but we encourage you to check them out in their entirety over at the Chicago Sight N’ Sound SoundCloud page.

U Mad feat. Kanye West

U Mad? Cam’ron would be very proud of this brand new cut starring Vic Mensa and Kanye West. Produced by Smoko Ono, this hard hitting number serves as a nice follow-up to Vic’s performance earlier today at Coachella. It’s a great look for the Chitown native who previously collaborated with Yeezy on his own single, “Wolves.” A few years ago it may have been difficult to imagine a pairing like this, but now it seems like this move could launch Vic further into stardom.

Expect this one to stay on the radio late into the summer. We look forward to seeing what else the emcee has in store for his upcoming EP Street Lights, dropping sometime this year.

DENZEL CURRY
ICE AGE (SMOKO ONO REMIX)

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Smoko Ono over the last year, it’s that the Chitown beatmaker can virtually do no wrong. For his latest exploit, Smoko grabs hold of Denzel Curry‘s “Ice Age” and uses his wizardry behind the boards to cool things down well below sub-zero temperatures. Steeped in bubbling, hazy production, the droning vocals come to life in this remake, which makes for a much louder, yet relaxing listen. This remix will be featured on Smoko’s upcoming Slackin N Makin Vol 1 EP, which is set to drop in early November.

Feel That (Official)

As Vic Mensa and Smoko Ono continue their European tour alongside Danny Brown, we finally get a glimpse of what the two have been cooking up in the lab during their extended time together. The Chitown natives have both been on quite a tear lately, steadily releasing one hit after another, and this might just be their biggest one yet. “Feel That” is a certified banger–not something we’d typically expect from the SAVEMONEY spitter, but we definitely don’t hate it. Smoko cranks the bass all the way up on the club ready instrumental, while Vic gets familiar with his ratchet side. We wouldn’t be surprised if this one pops off in the coming months, and we’re definitely open to Vic exploring new sounds as he’s done over the past few months. Check out the heater above, and make sure to grab a free download to add to your collection before the weekend begins.

[Video] Vic Mensa – Magic (Smoko Ono Remix)

Do you believe in “Magic?” If you’re a skeptic, then it might be time to hop in a time machine with Vic Mensa and Smoko Ono as they take a psychedelic trip back to the early 90’s in the visuals for this Chicago house inspired remix. Cutting out the verses completely from the Innanetape original, we’re instead left with a revitalized tune that’s dripping with entrancing melodies and infectious rhythms. Old school vibes are abound as well, as flush bright neons bombard the screen throughout the trippy visuals. Let the nostalgia take over as you peep the video below, and stay tuned for Smoko’s upcoming Slackin-N-Mackin EP, set to release later this year.
