[R&B] The Weeknd – Love In The Sky

The Weeknd
Love In The Sky

For a man who’s usually shrouded in mystery, The Weeknd‘s been pretty generous with his music output lately. Although Kiss Land is still months away, this is the third single we’ve received from him in July (if you count the collaboration with Kavinsky). “Love In The Sky” seems like business as usual for The Weeknd, as he blends his raw vocals and fervid lyrics with some elemental production to create an atmosphere that’s perfect for those dark and stormy nights. The anticipation is killing us as we wait for the release of Kiss Land, now set to drop on September 1oth.

[Remix] Kavinsky – Odd Look (Feat. The Weeknd)

Odd Look (Remix) feat. The Weeknd

Seeing Kavinsky and The Weeknd together on one track may seem like an “Odd Look” to you, but once you press play you’ll realize it’s a natural fit. While Kavinsky’s latest single has already been remixed by the likes of A-Trak and Surkin, it can be argued that this version is the finest endeavor of them all. Abel’s sumptuous falsetto glides seamlessly over the French producer’s 80’s inspired retro-futuristic electro-pop sound. This track, along with the two others, will be packaged together in Kavinsky’s Odd Look EP, due for release this Tuesday, July 23rd. If you still can’t get enough of Kavinsky though, I suggest checking out his peculiar self-titled mobile game, which is surprisingly fun to play.

[Video] The Weeknd – Belong To The World

The Weeknd
Belong To The World

It might still be Monday, but The Weeknd‘s already returned (I know, bad pun) to give us yet another glimpse of the mysterious realm known as Kiss Land. Possibly the most powerful single from the Toronto native yet, “Belong To The World” comes with its fair share of controversy. The track utilizes an unauthorized sample of Portishead’s “Machine Gun,” of which lead guitarist Geoff Barrow made his disapproval abundantly clear (in a somewhat bizarre fashion, checkout all the backlash Barrow’s received on his Twitter feed). Legally sampled or not, Abel makes good use of the source material, amping us up for what may be his most emotionally driven project to date. Be on the lookout for the release of Kiss Land, which is currently scheduled for release on August 27th.

’French Montana – Gifted feat. The Weeknd’

The Weeknd gives us a 2 for 1 special today with the premiere of new material from his upcoming Universal debut, Kiss Land. Along with the album’s title track, fans are also treated to the full version of “John Carpenter,” another new song that was previewed earlier this week. For the first half, Abel takes us on a haunting voyage to a creepy location known as “Kiss Land,” complete with cliché horror movie screams. Around the three minute mark, the track segues over to the equally ominous “John Carpenter,” which is sure to please longtime fans of The Weeknd. While Kiss Land has no set release date yet, we look forward to its release later this year. As an added bonus, we’ve also included “Gifted,” a recent collaboration between The Weeknd and French Montana.

[Hip-Hop] Juicy J – One Of Those Nights (ft. The Weeknd)

Oscar-award winning veteran emcee, Juicy J, is gearing up to put the underscore on his return to the top of the mainstream hip-hop charts with his upcoming album . On his latest single, Juicy enlists The Weeknd cultivating a more laid back, but still hard-hitting, feel. The rising R&B star handles the first couple minutes before the Memphis rapper hops in with his trademarked staggered flow.

“One Of Those Nights” has a cloudy, waviness to it creating a perfect synergy between the sound of both artists. Stream this cut below and look out for Stay Trippy, due out next month.

[MP3 Playlist] The Trap Dojo #27

This weeks Trap Dojo is divided into four sections. The first track, from thefaded. kicks off with a massive build up that will have you saying “Wait For It” to drop that almost never seems to come. The mood and pace continues to build over the next few tracks, including the UZ remix of “Cowboy” by Zeds Dead, a remix of Baauer’s “DumDum” and climaxing with Alex Young‘s insane remix of Ah Yeah”. The next four songs are all spaced out trap bangers. Starting it off with the deep and jazzy “Ride Up”, heRobust infuses some electro beats, and the other two tracks lay down a big room sound thats still thuggin enough to hear coming out of the trunk of a Cutlass. I should warn you that the next section is going to be an all out assault on your senses. Starting with some dark drumwork in the intro, “Brain Splat” drops a bassline that will leave your head splattered over your backseat like Marvin from “Pulp Fiction”DJ Snake throws some dark trap with a hardstyle twist over French MC, Stromae’s aggressive bars, then Team Bayside High does something crazy and makes the heaviest track we’ve heard to date. Remixing none other than Pantera, they are able to chop the heavy riffs into filthy trap beats, and June gives us some spooky bass to finish. Our final section includes a remix of the “Django Unchained Theme” by Kissy Sell Out,  some Cyber-Footwork from the LOLGurlz and three progressively more emotionally evocative Love trap songs for a beautiful send off.

I hope you enjoyed this trip through the extremes of trap. Download all the free tracks right here

[R&B/Chill] Rich Hil – Nomads ft The Weeknd

The apple seems to fall from the tree. As the son of the well-known designer Tommy Hilfiger, Rich Hil drops some new tunes for the interwebs this week. Mixing dark tunes with his raspy voice, this singer croons over an atmospheric beat complete with snares and hi-hats on the single “Nomads”. Almost a drug-induced feel and vibe, it is only right that he recruits the talents of the drug-and-sex oriented Canadian singer The Weeknd to emphasize the “tortured-soul” vibe of Hillfiger’s rebelious son’s painful lyircs. A theme that can be heard throughout his entire debut album SYLDD. As a huge gift to the fans and a middle-finger to his record label, Hil released his debut album for free here, via Noisey.
