[NEW] The Weeknd – Valerie

The Weeknd is back today with yet another brand new bonus track from Trilogy, coming courtesy of BBC Radio 1. Like the previous release, this one takes us on a complex, emotional tour through The Weeknd’s conscience. On “Valerie,” Abel struggles with the emotional toil associated with being unfaithful. Although the act itself seems familiar to him, the guilt involved is foreign, and he details the effect these new feelings coursing through his mind have on his actions. To make matters worse, both parties know the other’s lying about the illicit relationship or the knowledge of its existence, yet they continue to push on in their relationship despite the presence of the elephant in the room. It’s definitely a telling tale that’s been done countless times in music, but for some reason everything seems fresh once The Weeknd laces the track with his vocal prowess.

The Weeknd continues to grow and mature as an artist, and if you’d like to hear more where this came from, make sure to pick up Trilogy when it drops next week on November 13th.

[R&B] The Weeknd – Twenty Eight

This newest track from The Weekend might be one of his most heartfelt and emotional outings to date. The song itself is about a woman who initially is nothing more than a one night stand, but soon transforms into a thorn in Abel’s side once she realizes his identity. He then delves into the issues this causes as she becomes part groupie and part girlfriend, while The Weeknd struggles to find a true solution. This latest effort also allows The Weeknd to stretch his vocal range, as he torches through the track with intensely raw emotion. If you’ve been steadily awaiting the release of Trilogy, take solace in the fact that it is now only a week away.

[Mash-Up] Tyler,the Recreator – The Ride Remix (Andre 3000 x The Weeknd)

While everyone who has ever listened to an Outkast record eagerly anticipates some new material from 3 Stacks and Big Boi, we are forced to scrounge through music blogs for anything with a “ft. Andre 3000” appended. In my search, I was able to dig this treasure up. A mashup of The Weeknd assisted track The Ride, off of Drake’s Take Care, and Andre’s legendary verse from International Player’s Anthem. This works seamlessly and makes quite the compelling case for an authentic collaboration between these two enormous talents. Craftily mixed by an artist with a suspiciously similar name to the OF lead man, this mashup should certainly help hold music fans over until we get some more new music from the ATLien. No need to thank me because as Dre would say, “you know I got your back like chiroprac.”
